Allright you turkey people out there, I have my five midget eggs ready to go into the hatcher tomorrow (day 25) and they are kicking and moving and looking very ready to hatch.  The big question, since these are shipped turkey eggs (from flocksalot, of course):  What should temp and humidity in my hatcher be?

So am I grandma yet?

Hi all
frow.gif
I wanted to share some pics of the first eggs that I have hatched from this swap. These are Birchen Marans from crfarms.

The first one is the one that I had to help out as she was glued to her shell. She had pulled it all over the hatcher but was thoroughly stuck. I steamed up my bathroom and slowly removed her shell from her. She is much smaller than the others and has a crooked toe.

Second one is all black. I wasn't expecting one to be all black like that, but there it is (I am completely new to this color and variety, so did not have much idea of what to expect). The black one was the first to hatch and is HUGE. The other three all look like the last two pics. I can't tell them apart very well. One is darker black and the other two seem blueish. They are also pretty big, but not as big as the black one. The black chick also blew up its egg. I came home and it's shell looked like it has exploded and it was out and about.

Also, is it normal for them to eat their shell? The EE's that I hatched didn't, but I only had two shells that looked like part of an egg and parts of the rest when I cleaned up after these babies. Only the one blew up its shell, so... Also the DH said he saw them picking at them.

I am packing special treat boxes today for other swaps.....have some leftover treats. PM if you want to trade eggs for treats!! If you want to know what's in them, let me know. It is a surprise for some in here

Hum.... I have a good friend that GAVE me all her commercial rubber stamp making equipment.... even the self inking ones like that. I just need time for her to come over and show me how to make them. But that will not be for a few months.
I used to do printmaking and I believe that the linoleum templates that I used to carve would be the same kind of medium. I think it would be the same tools as woodcutting for printmaking. I would go to a real art store (not michaels or hobby lobby) and see what they have for printmaking as far as carving tools go.

Big giant bummer today. I had a hen sitting on two eggs (she went broody and I didn't want too many more chicks, so I stuck just two under her) She did a great job incubating them, but one of them this morning was having trouble getting out and I decided to intervene after I finished feeding. By the time I finished feeding, it was dead in the shell. I opened it up and did chest compressions (wacko, I know). It was a really really big chick, not a big wet chick, just a giant brahma mix, there was very little air sac and the shell (a green one) was super thick. If I could have just been a bit quicker feeding, or helped the chick in the egg first, I would have saved it. Makes me feel like such a heel.

Then her other chick hatched and she attacked it! I found it bleeding from its ears. I put it in with my bator chicks that hatched yesterday and it seems okay, but I'm thinking that it may develop some brain swelling or that it may have aspirated some blood. As soon as I took her chick away, she left the coop and didn't even look back. B****!.
