just put eggs in the incubator and I have out of 24 red bourbon turkey eggs 3 piped- 3 not pipped and all the rest hatched. Today is day 28 and I was not expecting them to be hatched yet!! Doing the happy turkey dance!!! Can they be fed non-medicated chick feed for the first week or do I need the Turkey/game chick feed?

You really need the turkey starter. They need a minimum of 28% protein to grow well. In a few weeks, you may get by with meat maker.

when they get bigger, I switch to a small bitesize high protein dog/cat food instead of the "specialty" feed, cause it's so expensive here, and I have to drive an hour to get it.

We got up at 8am and started working outside. We had planned to fully enclose the chickens barns in chain link fencing and then turn the "chicken protectors" loosing in it at night. By 6pm we had to stop and goto the grocery store. But we did get 6 new pens, roofs on those pens, the front fencing done, and some of the old barn torn down.
Came home from the store, heard some small peeping, and I have a Lilac turkey hatched from Seabrightmom! Pretty tickled about him/her. If the other three hatch I'll be ecstatic!

This is the cake my friend and I made for someone's wedding. They play an rpg game called portal? And this is pretty significant to the game I guess. We had to make a few adjustments as she dropped a layer when she was sticking the cake so it would up being an inch too short.

such is the life of a cake artist. At least we were able to adjust it well enough though I still have to adjust a few panels. Now have 40 cupcakes to bake and decorate to go with it.

Excited for the weekend. Garden and woodworking!

We were going through our chick brooders the other day and found a chocolate chick that wasn't a orp- It turns out I had forgot about my little chocolate wyandotte that I hatched out- its growing out very cute! It will be a lonely chick - don't know if its a male/female yet but, its cute anyway. It will be destined for RBA one day.

He's working me to death! The pen we are putting in went from a 10x10 to a 10x20. Got to love my husband for being the enabler of my chicken addiction!

Nice!! Yay for a helpful DH, mine made me 2 more brooder boxes last week and rearranged all the chicks while I was working this weekend and made sure they are all warm.. .

KYT... that has to be the cutest little donkey I have ever seen... and I"m not usually a fan of donkeys, I'm a horse person =) LOL on whoever it was whose Arabian is scared of them?? crazy!!

COF... beautiful birds!! I still have a lot to learn on genetics... do you use black on those LLO's to improve the lavendar lacing or something else??

Have shipped eggs in lockdown again, due to hatch tomorrow, I put them in a day early......

I have a better hatch this time!!
