Okay, it worked! I'm getting better at using my phone! Anyways, Little Sh*t on the right (the hateful roo, and yes, that's his name) and the crowing hennie on the left.
My roo has always been the sweetest guy! He is the biggest reason (besides color, of course) that I love this breed!

Ok....so I got sent home from work tonight for a snow emergency!!! In April! To give you perspective, for those who live in more tolerable eco-systems, it is against the law to declare a snow emergency in the city of Minneapolis because it simply isn't supposed to happen!!!! Additionally, a "snow emergency" here generally means a minimum of 12 inches. I was in Boston once and they think 4 inches is an emergency. Climate change much?????
Well if it helps you feel better, we were mid 70's and sunshine, with a little bit of cloud cover.

Profti your self sufficiency impresses me, we are trying to do this but we are working with 6 acres, last year we planted 12 peach trees. This year we have six hand grafted apple trees and probably will do 2 cherry trees. We are also planting 2 bluberries and did one last year amongst several more. I guess if we keep plugging at it we will get there slowly.

Oh, she's sweet as sin, but he's NASTY! He keeps having to be reminded that his sh*t won't fly with me, and anyone new coming to see him he starts up again. Everyone just adores the little girl, but I warn them to not try to touch him or put your hands near him, in the cage, etc. The patterning is great on these two, he's just a jerk and she's not laying yet. I have a few people wanting chicks from them, but I can't grow out any for myself, let alone supply others when she won't lay, lol.

You guys are awesome! I still haven't ordered my apple and peach trees, put in my raised beds or anything. I'm hoping to order asparagus and more strawberries tomorrow or next week. If I could butcher turkeys, I'd be further on my way to self-sufficiency. G won't let me get anymore sheep or a jersey cow though, and I haven't been seeing deer during hunting season. Maybe this year will be different though, since we have deer coming to our little pond and I can actually shoot them here.

I just found the Porter's Heritage Turkey website. BIG mistake. I would love to order some. I'll have to wait, but I think I have narrowed it down to Sweetgrass, Tiger Bronze and Pencilled Palm colors.

All I can say is WOW!

My favorite on their site were the tiger bronze, but they were all out of them last year.

Quote: Deann, the poult I hatched last year was raised in my silkie pen (his tutors). When I got the poults from Porter's, he got moved in with the turkeys...............he cried pitifully for days!!!! I felt so sorry for him.

Lovely babies! I would recommend a second water bottle low enough for them, though. I don't think they can reach Mama's!

Haha, after I posed that, I was thinking someone was going to say something ;)
There is actually a fountain waterer on the right corner of the coop that isn't on the photo
I figured there was something I couldn't see, but I had to say something, just in case!

We have a decent Asparagus patch.

. You need your starts.....maybe by July!!! Peaches are one of the only things I just can't do here, but we have apricots and plums!

Man....I am frightened to imagine what I could do with 6 acres!!! But, having only one forces me to have a precision and efficiency that is really interesting, maddening and inspiring!!! I have done a ton of studying and researching on micro gardening. It is amazing! We can produce over 12,000 pounds of perennial fruits alone with the micro-orchards and briars and about 14,000 pounds of vegetables between the raised beds and still have over 1/2 acre of lawn. It has been quite a project. Mother Nature does not seem to appreciate that I need a little cooperation from Her though!
