Good Morning! Didn't finish my chicken chores til' 4:00 AM. I got some sleep. Have you made progress with your incubator (humidity)? Let me know when you're ready for some more Button Quail eggs? It's my gift to you. Let me know.
I have a question on Button Quail. I have 5 that hatched in Decemer along with 6 Texas A&M colored Cots. The Button Quail are all the blue with white collar and red breast, beautiful birds. I haven't had any eggs yet. How do I tell males from females? Have I gotten unlucky and hatched all roos?

A HUGE THANK YOU TO HERDUCKS FOR HAND DELIVERING MY CRESTED CREAM LEGBAR EGGS TO ME!!! Thanks to you, I had a 100% hatch on them!

I'm so sorry that I don't have my Rhodebars anymore to say thank you with some of their eggs, but I am SOOOOOOO very grateful to you!

Woohoo! Pictures as soon as you can, please?

And my first Sebbie is out! It has a black head with yellow patches on it's body. I don't have a camera that works, so I can't do pictures. She still has a little yolk to absorb, but was quite ready to get out.

thanks for letting me know! 75% hatch

I am a proud grandmama!

eta: wait! Didn't I send you all BS? Are you sure the one isn't a self blue?

We had talked about half blue, half RP. The eggs weren't marked, so I can't really say, but two eggs were lighter, two eggs hard more prominent red/orange flecks, if that means anything. :)

We'll see as it grows up. It's currently yellow with some traces of black. The blues are blue with yellow trim.

Update on my shipped Easter Buddy eggs:

7 of 7 in lockdown have hatched, only one egg lost to a blood ring early on. 4 beautiful marranduna basque, 3 blue laced red wyandottes. Thanks Mzstre! Outstanding for shipped eggs. :)

I just want to reiterate something. Once a swapper has shipped their swap the responsibility for that swap is no longer theirs. We all understand the risks of swapping for shipped eggs. USPS hasn't been a great friend of ours lately and packages have been getting lost. It is not the responsibility of the shipper to replace those lost packages or broken eggs. That's the risk you take. Same goes for chicks. It's not their responsibility to replace dead chicks. If they wish to, it is entirely up to them but they do not have to. Please keep that in mind when claiming swaps. Your responsibility as a shipper is to pack those eggs/chicks well and ship them out.

Now this does not hold true for poorly packed eggs or obvious old eggs. If you pack the eggs so poorly they get broken, you need to replace them. If you need help with packing there are a lot of great people here that can walk you through it. Please don't be too shy to ask. If you send obvious old eggs that start rotting when incubated, you need to replace those too. Fresh eggs should be sent at all times.

Thank you!!!!!

A couple of you have commented on my morning greetings. You have no idea what a warm fuzzy that was! Thanks! :D

tdhenson...I'm so glad you've found your perspective in those little fuzz balls. You can do this. You are, after all, smarter than any silly raccoon! That 100% hatch was a sign to keep going!

Oh...and of course the animals come before house work! I'd rather muck out a chicken house than clean my own house any day! (but I will clean it up if you're coming to visit!)

I have a dreadful hatch happening now...Nothing. I intend to disinfect my old LGs this weekend, and transfer the remaining eggs into them. Then I can see what's going on. Everyone is developing! Just not hatching. I've tried hatching them in the cabinet, and still using the Hovabator as a hatcher. Lousy hatchs, from developed eggs. I'm murdering clutch after clutch. :( I must sort this out. I'm about ready to quit trying to hatch anything at all.

I've had that same problem this year. This batch of Light Sussex and Crested Cream Legbars is my first good hatch at all. I keep getting eggs to develop and then they die before hatching.
