Right now he's walking back and forth across my chest and strutting for me while making cute little musical noises. Who couldn't love a turkey! They are so sweet and awesome.
I have two hatched and 4 pipped right now. More turkeys to love!
Oh my gosh, that's adorable!!! I can't wait for baby turkeys!
So....about that RB Tom...... I think you need a new breeder. Will trade for midgets!!!! Maybe we could trade my pair, I want to go more into the Blues and Midegts.
Anyone have any hatching eggs from a good white egg layer like White Leghorns or Black Minorcas? I really didn't want anymore, but people seem to like the large white eggs in their eating egg asst. Mine are getting older, so I guess I better think about replacing them. PM me if you do, we could swap or something.
Flocksalot tell me about midget whites. I'm trying to convince the DH.

More midgets on the swap!
Hmmmm. I need to build a really big pen to keep the breeds separated during breeding. We will have white holland next year as I'm growing some out right now, so I need a breeder pen for them anyway. I'll always have more stains of Midgets than everyone else since the UW is now helping me locate all the best flocks. I loves my midgets! So definitely something to mull over.
I do think you should just go give him a big ole huge and kiss though! One of the newer strain went after my hubby yesterday. He grabbed him right up and started hugging and kissing him. Poor boy got all embarrassed. Don't think he would have did that if my hubby didn't have his arm on me though. My turkeys are very protective of me.
I'm currently looking for a red leghorn rooster for our two girls. If I can find one these birds are so pretty I think they would make a nice swap. If anyone knows of someone that has one let me know. They are kind of hard to find around here. Such sweet and beautiful birds though. Of course they are probably supposed to be flighty, but we just don't have that problem. Kid catches them and carries them around giving treats until they love us.![]()
Both our girls are a deep rich red with perfectly upright combs.
Midgets are awesome! They are very sweet and curious turkeys. Similar to BBW turkeys, but much smaller. The toms dress out to between 7 and 20 lbs. a good breeder should butcher the larger and breed toward the smaller. I'm not always in line with that. I breed for a better range to supply for the CSA we provide for. But they do normally stay around the 13 to 15 pound mark.
Midgets win taste contests and I can tell you anyone that got one last year has already ordered 4 or 6 for this year. They LOVED them. Sadly the two we had as extras were stolen last year, so I still haven't gotten to eat one. Hopefully this year!
Since they are smaller they will eat less. They free range extremely well. They can and will fly if allowed. They will seek out human contact more than any turkey I've raised. I can't sit down without them piling on me. They take between 6 and 10 months to grow out. Just depends how big you want them. They are sought after since Mother Earth News and Taste of Ark did stories on them. And if you ask me they are just amazing. We even had two of our toms take out a marauding hawk this spring. They are very good boys!
I'll think of more, but better check the spoilt goose.
