Got the plucker all done, what a gem it is, even plucking a duck in less than a minute. Ordered a scalder on Friday so when it arrives we will be able to get a large group processed.

SAH so sorry about your dog. Does he have a collar and his dog tags on, at least dog tags gives animal control a way to trace where he belongs.


I dont thin anyone faults you for your honesty. It was the lines you listed with the combination of only 70% leg feathering.

Then again when it comes to Marans, EVERYONE says they have those lines. What in reality they have is off spring related to those lines, but not truely from them. It would be like buying goslings from neighbor X down the road who got them Betty Sue who bought from a guy who got his first birds from Holderread waterfowl. Your goslings are not from HWF because you did not buy them directly. They are related to HWF stock 3 times removed. We have3 adult geese directly from HWF and their goslings produced are 1 time removed 1/2 hwf stock. People should be proud of their breeding and not try and list lines unless they got stock directly from the line.

I do understand your point there. Although many people get upset if you call them your own line also. Marans are just a touchy subject on BYC.

I agree about Marans being a touchy subject. I have decided to sell my flock that I have been putting together for the last two years............and I already fell less stressed.

Them and AM's both. Its why we wont mess with either and why we got rid of the BCm flock. Too many crap shoot breeders, too many fauts to even think of having something worth breeding. Too many breeding only for egg color in both and not concerned with everything else.

I couldn't agree more. I have no BCM for that very reason. Believe me I have thought about doing away with them but have hard time doing so because I just love the birds themselves and there personality. But I could see it being way less stressful.

We have the same problems with sebastopols..... too many breeding anything, and not enough focus on what should be. (sold our white flock this year because of this) we will be working only color and working to type

I am kicking myself for ordering 20 Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana chicks from Paul Smith this past winter. They are due to us in the next week or so. This color in particular seems like a bit too much work. I did alot of research before we purchased but have since read many stories on the troubles of breeding these. Also breeding for egg colors just adds too much confusion, especially when it is so specific(only blue with no green).

He did have a orange collar with his reg. as well as a dog tag with our names and numbers. We are leaning towards stolen at this point. I mean, that dog was happy to meet anyone, he would have been happy and excited to jump in a strangers cat
