Happy Thanksgiving Everyone - May God Bless You and Yours
x3!!!
Good morning all. I just wanted to remind everyone that when you are giving thanks today to not forget about all of our brave men and women serving in the armed forces, without them this day might not be possible. Say a little prayer for them and Happy Thanksgiving to all.
x2!!

thanks for sharing your story, Overoberyl, that's a pretty awesome thanksgiving memory!!

HAPPY Thanksgiving ALL!!!!

Wow, I finally found time to catch up on this thread (now I need to go get the turkey in the oven).

Bobwhites are a little bigger then coturnix, like I have, but I assume they have a larger yolk ratio as well. I might get some bobwhites, however, they take almost as long to mature as chickens, though they lay longer then coturnix. I love the turn over rate on coturnix. 18 days to incubate (mine always seem to hatch on day 16) they are mature for eating or laying in 6 weeks. They lay pretty well everyday, though their laying period is only about a year. After that they slow down immensely.

My Bobwhite (birds and eggs) are smaller than my coturnix. I also find the BW to be totally nuts. The Cots are friendly. There is also the 24/16 day incubation and the 6 mos/42 day maturity difference. I plan to get a couple of pens of BW, because I love their calls. The Cots screech, but I love them anyway. I scrambled quail eggs for breakfast the other day, they seem to be creamier. I fixed 30 for DH and I. I would normally fix four chicken eggs.

We used the LEd ones, less electric and no fear of fires. I used rope lighting, not xmas lighting, because my girls liked to try and eat the xmas lights, bad chickens no cookies for you. It took a week or 2 for them to start again, but it worked to start last years pullets laying before spring.

Do NOT let your chickens eat the lights, or they'll end up like this frog.
