Keep in mind snakes can climb anything. The snake that got my pullet can in over the top.

I've had several experiences with snakes as a kid that creeped me out. One with a rattlesnake and another with a water moccasin in a pool.. umm, yuck.

I see that isbar's are auto sexing but not as pronounced. How would one tell who is who?

I've read this too and I agree there is nothing to support it. I think it's one of those things that was said once in error and just keeps getting passed along as fact.

If I could find a breeder that had good eggs. I would.

My girls should start laying any time now. Their combs are really starting to redden. Of course, then it would take me a month to make sure they are pure. They are currently living with my CCL.

I have another chick hatched. Another black chick. Seriously? I haven't even seen pictures of a black Isbar but that looks like what I'm getting.

Have you seen their parent stock? Maybe they have multiple blacks in there. That would really throw off the percentages against blues.

I do have spare roos I want to get rid of, blues and splashes.

I am going through the same thing. My granddaughters have bronchitis so it may not be as bad as pneumonia.
Sorry to hear everyone's kids are sick. I do NOT miss those days. Sleeping in a recliner with a baby that can't breathe on your chest and then trying to take care of the well ones with 10 minutes of sleep. YUCK!!!

On a different note, does anyone have eggs available for NYD hatch? I'm trying to find some more as one of my swap partners chickens stopped laying. (No fault of theirs, just one of those things.) I have 12 coming from CPL but would like a few more. PM me if you do. I would like something I already have coming to avoid more pens this springs. HA! I may have to have a bachelor pad and breeding pens that rotate out. Thanks, all!

Thank you, I hope so too. We've been dealing with this on and off between both kids for a month now, and I haven't been getting any sleep so I am starting to lose it. Last night he woke me up with a wet cough and I was siting there for two hours just making sure he was struggling to breath or anything. My husband finally woke up and I just started bawling. Lol, poor guy was like what the heck is wrong!!?? Is he ok??!! While I know I overact to these things, at night it's scary because the hospital is an hour away, and even an ambulance takes 20 or so minutes to get to our house.
I ended up picking up my hatchery catalog just to distract myself

I finally fell asleep holding the baby an the catalog next to me in bed... The first thing I told my husband when we woke up this morning was... How can you want to get rid of my chickens!? They're the only things that can pull me out of a panic
oh you poor thing...((((hugs))))

x2 regarding sick kids.. having flashbacks of sleep deprivation and sick babies.. my oldest two were so close together it was really hard when they were both sick. Sending best wishes for everyone with sick family members!! I've been lucky so far this year except for this ridiculous foot injury.. NOTHING is getting done, I tell you! Takes ten minutes to climb the stairs!!!

Quote: Did I mention the chicks were IN MY SHOP LOL. It came in under a double barn door and then just climbed over till he got in. We have found several snakes in the shop, usually we just MOVE them outside AWAY from the chickens....... but we didn't get to do that with the one that got my pullet. We have timber rattlers, pigmy rattlers, cotton mouths and copper heads. I have seen several copper heads and several corn snakes (eating my eggs

) the farm is 68 mostly wooded acres so we have it ALL.
