Love my Dickey!

Just got one last week (my christmas from hubbie) Can't wait to "fill-er-up". He may get gruff once in awhile, but he loves my birds as much as I do.

Truly everyone, 99.9 out of us crazy chicken people are conscientious and honest in our dealings. Lets just give each other grace and trust this Christmas. After all, it is what was given to us on the first one.

On the spring egg situation:

I personally am still waiting for my first swap ( and I think her second swap) back in JULY from another swapper who is no longer with us. I still email her about it but have not gotten a reply for months. I have also had to track down a few people on non BYC emails to get replies. But those few experiences have made me more clear that eggs are a gamble.

Since you CAN'T really say what will hatch its easy to scam. I think its a buyer beware situation, only do it if you can afford to loose it. I have some girls I have not offered eggs from because they started laying RIGHT before winter and I wanted a full batch of chicks from them before I offered it to anyone else.

I still worry about spring eggs because stuff happens. Plus, a lot of my hens are silkies, and they lay when and if they want to and can take 8 months to start ( in fact I have an 8 mth hen that hasn't started) plus a month for pullet eggs, and a month to check fertility. I could be a year before i even get a egg worth shipping!

And don't forget the price of shipping. Being in CA things go farther to and from me so its more of a concern here. And everything is going up 3% in January, and is tentatively expected to go up again in June.

The swap is clearly evolving as problems occur. I think that that is one of the best things about this swap. And what makes it so popular. But remember, every egg is a gamble, and like gambling its a lot of fun and a lot of risk!
