My chickies arrived!!!!!!! I have 2 that are 3 and 4 weeks jubillees, trio of lavender orpingtons, 6- 1week old double laced blue barnevelders and 2- 1week old jubilee orpingtons!!!!!!

I took pics in the box but haven't had a chance to upload them yet. I HAVE to get out to the barn to fill water buckets for horses and throw hay and turn lights off. Late tonight as we went to pick them up early!!!!!!!!!!!! sorting facility was nice enough to call me early and give me the option of picking them up this evening.

Mine!

Oh, wait...

Yay, crfarm! I was actually angling to get some BLB eggs (back before I spent all my egg money) because I think they're GORGEOUS and hadn't seen any on the swap thread yet -- I figured they'd be a good addition to the egg pool!

Well, we show them anyway, but whites are apa, you just can't compete for the championship row with the various color blends. Quite a few of us here show our bantam Barnevelders and have the same issue of only being able to compete within our breed.
All of our serama live in the house. With the silkie it is only the rain that is the issue up here. They live out but need to be kept dry and covered. They make excellent house critters and you could easily have your girls out in the yard/run during the day and only put your boy out in the afternoon and when you are home. They usually 'fertilize' best in the afternoon anyway. another bonus for silkie is they can't fly and are not inclined to jump where they cannot see ..... so usually don't do a roost well unless they are of utility type (small crest, narrow bodied, etc,) because of the very round shape and head furnishings.

Bottom line: GO FOR IT! Enjoy planning and raising and breeding, etc ..... and not just we need (not) another hatching addict to make us feel more 'normal'

Thank you for the encouragement. =] I really like Overberyl's suggestion of a Serama...I had no idea they were that tiny! In all honesty, I'm a lover of the massive breeds, with wide bodies and fluffy feathers and huge bohonkuses and such (big large fowl breeds) and I've never really been all that fond of bantams when I realized how small they are. But...the Serama (to me) is *right* before that bantam stage (even though it is a bantam) but it's much smaller - it's like a chickakeet or a chickatiel or something.

I think I really them!
ok here is another mystery chick photo session. This is the black with white/silver?? No feathers on legs. I have 2 of these. Maybe these pictures are better. Whatever they are, I think they are pretty. The other one that is harder to catch I think has a more prominent comb, so maybe

might have a pair? Again, ALL of your help is greatly appreciated!!

I have no idea what they are but they are adorable!!
Most likely! Here are a couple pics I just snapped of two NJ's I hatched from CJWaldon's eggs a few days ago...

Hen

Roo

Awww that roo is the same color as the one we hatched out from cj. :) REALLY yellow...so cute! I miss that little roo (he passed away). But we have two of his siblings here and they're both very healthy, happy, active and smart little things.

I really hope your NJ's hatch! Darned electricity..

I'm hoping to get an eventual broody from the silkie eggs. It'd be great to have some chicks hatch naturally.

I just candled my NJs and CCL, I tried to leave them in there and not pick them up as my newest flashlight works really well. It looked like all them have veining!! Yeah!!!

Btw, the flashlight I have now is a coleman I got from walmart, can't remember the lumens, maybe 220? I guess the model number is CT20? It has 2 settings, if you don't remember that and only push it once, you will end up with a dead battery...yep I'm blonde. Anyways, it was reasonable and has made it much easier to candle...don't have to pick up the eggs near as often!

Yes, I have seen your pics. Your birds are lovely!
I will quote a few reasons why I like them (without regards to grammar or syntax) : head carried high, neck long full carried erect, back well-balanced and concave and medium (in production terms --not serama-- medium is rare so kinda "read" as not long(shorter than almost if not all others) and almost all other breeds call for long) and tail graceful -- and with a 'sweep' (what I look for is a definate 'swoopy' back to tail with no flat spots and no flatness in shoulder) and full carried high (again in most production breeds anything over 40-45 is too high and we can go 50 degrees so think what looks too high, relatively, and you're probably just right!
I look for birds that meet the SOP as much as possible but because so few are shown, what is written may seldom win as most utility breeders may find my ideal would be too 'typey' Your pullets, esp one in my mind as I remember them, cannot be confused with a P. Rock, Orp, or anything like that... That's a good thing!

I am not computer-y or tech-y enough to do pics. Hubby will be helping once the weather is better.
Thanks! I don't know all the correct terminology, but I guess "elegant" was what I thought when I saw my first ones. They remind me of my college roomate...dark and elegant. Which is funny because the other breed I was drawn to were Dorkings. Polar opposites. Dorkings are supposed to be as short and round as possible. LOL

I would love to see pictures of bantum barnevelders! hope you can convince the husband to help!

And over 60 more while I was cooking! I'm never going to be able to keep up with who's got what around here! I can't quit the job, ele I'd not be able to buy chickens...but I'm taking a month off. Starting this weekend. I'll tell my boss tomorrow. Really.

no no no.... you should take a month off in the Spring.... Can you imagine what it will be like then?!??
