Ooh ooh whatchya gettin'?

See now that's the polite thing to do not out bid each other. Someone on here who shal remain nameless knocked me out of a few auctions recently. Oh if you see me bidding on something between now and Feb. feel free to knock me out I should not be buying anything else.

Awe, you still have bids out though!

Mine was just counting the chicks we just moved to the garage brooder (used to be his workshop, ha - 22), the ones still in the house brooder (12), the eggs currently in the incubators 72 (and only 20ish are shipped eggs, the rest are mine with nearly a 100% hatch rate). He's never added up the birds in the coops/pens...........probably close to 300, not counting the quail & turkeys.

Oops, maybe it's time to start moving more out. The neighbor 3 houses down has mentioned he can hear our house in the morning when he lets his dog out. Might have something to do with the around 75+ roos. I keep thinking someone will think I have a cockfighting operation going here!

Been there, said that!

Anyone have bantam polish on here? Looking specifically for gold laced, but may consider other colors.

I have SL bearded bantams. They are just starting to lay.

With regard to the RBA bids...If I ever did want to get some from RBA I wouldn't know the difference between someone from here and a complete stranger unless your usernames are exactly what they are here. If you don't want folks bidding against you - it might be a good idea to put "RBA username: blah-blah" in your signature so it's easily visible. Otherwise myself and others are apt to bid against you and not know it (and I don't want to search thousands of threads digging for usernames that my or may not have been posted).

That being said - I don't plan on getting more chickens for a while, I have my hands full with Serama preparations. One pair is being shipped on the 17th from Louisiana and the other is being sent out tomorrow from South Carolina (praying for capable USPS workers on both). We're not building the Serama habitat until Saturday so the 1 pair will have to be somewhat comfortable in their 24x24 cage until Saturday afternoon. *wipes forehead* - I'm exhausted just thinking about this weekend.

I'm learning a lot though, and getting excited. We plan on attending the 2013 Cajun Classic in Gramercy, LA - anyone else going?

Would be very nice to meet some BYC folks there. It's in April.

I got eggs in the mail today from 202roosterlane! The Post Office liked them so much, they kept them four days, even though they were sent priority. What does "priority" mean to them?

At any rate, no cracks, no breakage. I'm not good enough candling to see any interior damage. Each egg was rolled in bubble wrap and stood on an end, not laid on the side. It's my first package of eggs in the mail! I'm letting them set until tomorrow before going in, but they've had a longer trip than anticipated, so I'm hesitant to give them two days rest. What do you think?

Hmmm... I have no personal experience, but I believe I read on here somewhere that you could start incubating, just don't turn them the first day or two...

I think if you wait you have old eggs, but a lot of people disagree with me. I set but do not turn right away.

I'm so excited! With the swap and ordering eggs, its like Christmas every day. The lady who works the front office at the main sorting facility at the USPS in Cape Girardeau, MO is the most wonderful lady ever. When eggs come through, she has them brought to her office to keep them "safe" until I come pick them up. (She does not want them to go out on route because the eggs may be shaken) and when live chicks come in she calls and if they are cheeping too loudly she checks the no. of hours they have been in route and will call and ask if she can open up the box, put a light on them and give them food and water!! She actually keeps the supplies in her office... She is the best USPS worker in the history of USPS.
