HEART BROKEN - HUGS NEEDED I have had 2 silkie hens (missy and prissy) for so long I can't remember how old they are. The roo I bought then - Flapper - is still with me also. They were not "top" quality but I have never been able to let them go.... Well, I just let the three of them and a black with a bad foot (my husband somehow managed to shut her up in the door) run willynilly around in the barn. A couple weeks ago I found Prissy sitting on 5 eggs. So, I let her (should have known better but she was in a nest box) This morning I open the barn door, step in and she is under my feet! THEN I HEAR THE SQUAWKING!! All 5 had hatched and she had brought them to the door where she is accustomed to meeting ME. I HAD STEPPED ON THEM

all 5 had hatched and were beautiful. I brought them to the house and put them under a heat lamp. 2 were dead and three barley moving. The three are now on their feet but shivering. I am praying they make it. I feel like a MURDERER. I cried like a baby. Prissy is beside herself and looking all over the barn. I may bring her in and put her with the babies.
Just had to tell someone and knew you all would understand ......

Billie Sue-accidents happen to anyone! No, we don't all have the same accidents, but they DO happen to us all. Forgive yourself, and take special care of Prissy and her chickies. You had no way of knowing they were at your feet.

Our son is just about to start a small early education school and I couldn't even imagine something like that. It makes me nauseous to really think about it. Saying it's sad is such an understatement. There are no words to describe what that community must be going through.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, Redbrush. My heart goes out to you. I did something similar awhile back, and felt the same way. Hugs to you..

Any of you swappers have any Araucana (Tufted Kind) or Ameraucana that you ever swap?

I have an ideal for a project using preferable the Ameraucana.

I have BW/Splash Ams, but won't have eggs till spring... my pullets are POL, but I only run lights on daylight hours and it is now pretty cold here, so I don't know when they will start laying...

Totally agree, soo sorry that happened!! Of course you feel terrible, hoping the other 3 do ok!

Prayers to all of those poor people in Connecticut. I cannot even imagine the way the parents must feel.

OMGoodness, how horrifying... I can't even think about it!! It makes me seriously nauseous... my oldest is the only one in school and he is at a charter school, the school is locked and you have to be buzzed in, but still, you never know, how absolutely devastating to those poor parents, my prayers go out to them in a serious way!
