Hmmm...I could incubate them in my hatcher and just hand turn them. The humidity is set for 65%. Everything I've read says to incubate with that humidity but then I have to get it higher during lockdown. I do have a broody but I can't see sticking 6 duck eggs under a silkie.

I think that was the information that I was told after reading it in print ( getting old the mind don't always remeber right). Also I was told that they do better hand turning them insterad of an automatic turner.

Pysankigirl, I am sorry. I know how you are feeling-my little Cream Legbar cockerel "Vanilla Ice" died this morning too. I have only had him for about two weeks (thanks to Rachael ) but he was the cutest, sweetest little guy. He had mites terribly, but till I realized it, he was too far gone to save. I have dusted all of the other chickens, though, and will do it again in about a week. I do have 7 others to choose from, but he was easily my favorite.

Aww! I somehow missed this last night. Poor little honey. I'm so sorry you lost him! Didn't you also lose your gander a little while back? It's terrible to lose an animal. Many hugs!

Good morning.

I recieved some Christmas money, and it is all I can do to resist the temptation of buying a whole bunch of eggs!! It is a good thing my incubator is pretty well full, or I would probably blow it a on new breeds since I still haven't decided how to build breeding pens for the ones I have- I really shouldn't add anything until I at least have a plan. I wanted to use pallets like dmrippy but I can't find anyone around here giving them away!

I can't even bring myself to watch the news. It makes me sick to my stomach thinking about the terror and pain those sweet babies endured in Ct, and the detestation their families are facing. I fight tears just typing about it.
It also scares me what the aftermath will be. With all the heated emotions behind firearm laws, I fear regulation or the talk of may cause more violence... The last thing we need.

I am a teacher. Many of my students are 10 years old. I can not wrap my mind around this. God is Good, but I can't understand.
If your incubators are not full, you may need a few more eggs..... I saw in your siggie you have crele OEGB - any chance u will be trading or selling any?

I rec'd money yesterday too and the temptation is very strong. I still have tons of space in my bator and will be waiting for some new breeds that I really want to become available. Try going to Lowes for the pallets. My Lowes lets me have them as long as there are not yellow stripes on them. I actually have a guy there that will save them for me when I ask.

I cried my eyes out yesterday, and am tearing up now, when I think of those poor children and their families. May God watch over them.

I don't have them yet, they are on my wish list. I WILL be getting them, just don't know when or how

I will try lowes, the closest is an hour away and I have to borrow my husbands truck ... I guess it would make sense to call them first. Don't know why that hadn't occurred to me...

Could someone send me the link to the spreadsheet where we are supposed to post the number of eggs we are incubating for NYDH? I haven't seen it and don't have time to read the 10,000 posts over on that thread.

I posted my picture in the best hatch contest but am lost on the rest of it. I think I am too late to join the other hatching contests. TIA

So how are any of the early Secret Santa eggs doing?  Mine are about 8 days along now, some clear, some veined, some too dark to see

The eggs I received are doing great! ALL started developing, but I had one early quitter. The rest are going strong. Must have a lot to do with that special packaging and wrapping technique.

Now if my Secret Santa would tell me what they are...curiosity is killing me!

You would be surprised at the places that have pallets.... auto glass shops. places that sell mowers, printers, places that sell tile and stones, sheet metal shops, FEED STORES. Just some other ideas. Might want to pick up the phone and call some places close to you and see if they have them and will save them for you.
