Sad morning here -- I have two beautiful new little basque chickies, and two that died in the shell. Four more fully-formed that haven't pipped at all, so I'm waiting and worrying. Except for the turkey eggs, these are the last that went through the swinging temperatures/incubator switch, so I have higher hopes for the NYD hatch, but I'm still not a happy camper. It's the first time I ever lost a fully-formed chick, and it's way harder than when they fail to develop.

I'm so bummed, pastrymama!!! And scared to death for the four remaining eggs -- I feel so helpless. Thank you SO much, though, for the "new" batch! I know they're in the best of hands

Thanks, pysankigirl! I just took the new chickies out so at least they'll stop playing roll-an-egg with their sisters :) They're all warm and bundled in the brooder having a nice nap. Now I need to go do something else and stop looking n the 'bator very three seconds!! :)

I decided to set my broody hen eggs today as I realized that if they hatch I'd like it to be on a Sunday when I am here to witness it verses a tuesday when I definitely wont be!

I have 4 barnevelder eggs and two others (dorking) from the girl who's been in quarantine in the house (she sneezed a couple times and after losing Spike for unknown reasons, I didn't want to take a chance with my favorite hen) and therefore might still have a small chance of only having been fertilized by him, if she is still fertilized at all. He wasn't breeding hens that last week, I don't think. but I wormed her in a panic and gave her antibiotics so cant eat the eggs anyway. she was perfectly fine and I feel a bit silly, but she enjoyed hanging out in the house with us anyway.

The barnevelder pullet just started laying 4 days ago so hopefully wasn't receptive and has been fertilized by the Barnevelder. that's what I am telling myself anyway.

but there is a chance I will have some dorkvelders, if they hatch at all. LOL wonder what a dorkvelder would look like....LOLOLOL

I may have no fertile eggs under her at all but I am trying anyway.
