Thinking about offering a woodburned sign tomorrow. Would that be desirable to anyone? Out of Reclaimed cedar?

I love grape football! And then my sweet little crossbreed hen had to come up on my lap for her five minutes of pets, of course. She closes her eyes and hunkers down, I love it. She's as soft as any cat! She's got to be very close to laying -- her comb and wattles are very red and she's almost as big as my full-grown rocks -- and I'm waiting to see how she does. If she turns out to be half as good a layer as her mom, I am decidedly hatching a bunch more of this particular cross. They've all been extremely friendly and calm, sturdy chicks, and fast growers (the boys were quite meaty enough for processing at 12 weeks).

She's now -- what? Aug. 21 hatch date so that's what, 18 weeks, I think. Her laying might be delayed a bit because it's midwinter, but as long as she's under 22 weeks I'll consider that a positive "selling" point, too. For whatever reason this particular cross seems to be making an outstanding utility bird, and one that makes a great pet, too -- all her brothers and sisters have gone to families with kids :) I really need to hatch some more and this time process a couple of the roos to see how they cook up

but I'm really trying to hold off and see how she lays first. If she's a three-egg-a-week bird, well, that kinda defeats the purpose!
What is the cross? Sounds intriguing! I still can't get over the size of my Delaware and Light Brahma.

I can't wait until I get some adult birds from my spring eggs and chicks... I want to get back to truly swapping already. I have no money for paypal, but even when I did, it just didn't seem like as much fun as sending all those eggs in the mail and talking to our postal employees who talk about me as the pigeon and chicken guy... lol...

It's my white rock hen -- very spunky, friendly girl and yes, she's the one who lays the absolutely enormous eggs. Which is a good thing because daddy's my 9 (sorry! typo - 8) pound cuckoo marans roo, and I discovered on the first hatch round that the barred and partridge rock eggs, which are smaller, have a hard time hatching -- the chicks are so big they have a heck of a time getting out! In fact, only one managed without help. They apparently really need the larger egg to grow in!

I was amazed at how fast they grew, the boys especially. And really sweet-tempered for cockerels! I'm a little bummed the other crosses don't work as well, though -- the partridge rock/marans cross boy was the prettiest colors! Barred body with a greenish sheen, but with this wild, almost crele effect in his hackles -- green and blue and silver. He was pretty!
