I am just going to leave it alone. It probably is pretty traumatized as it is and I don't want to take it out to do anything to it. I added another sponge to help keep membrane soft... Just hoping a blood vessel didn't rupture or anything. I thought about moving a humidifier into the closet just to try to stabilize the whole room... Then I thought I might be getting carried away. I then thought maybe I could turn my whole closet into an incubator, by putting a space heater and incubator in it

can you imagine?? That would hold a LOT of eggs... And cost an arm in electricity!
I'm just having a bad morning haha. Found out about the BCM eggs, my brooder isn't holding a good temperature, I dropped a container of wet rye seeds on my carpet, the kids are really whiney, my cell service or phone is not being reliable, I shut the sliding glass door and the outside light globe fell and shattered...

I'm done complaining! Sorry

Sounds like you are having a bad day.

y'all keep your fingers crossed! I've got chicks and more due o hatch on NYD but it would be SO nice to be able to have juveniles!!!!!!

Ooh! Fingers crossed for you!!!

as I sit here alone in this thread catching up on documenting all the swaps I owe and organizing my lists... I can't help but think what I'll be missing in a few hours when you east coasters wake up... sigh

OH, but I am getting a pair of LF choc orps next week. totally unexpected but my chicken buddy decided he didn't need them... just gotta get another coop ready. sigh

LOL! Good morning Papa Brooder! I was keeping west coast hours last night too, babysitting the incubator till it came back up to temp -- which took waaaay too long for my peace of mind. How pathetic is this? I slept on the floor next to it! The cats kept me company, though, so it was all good :)

And

"didn't need them"???? He didn't need them??? How do you not need chocolate orps?

My broody hen has a good thing going on right now. She sits there all day until the other hen that is laying needs to lay. Then broody gets up and enjoys a half hour of freedom while the EE lays her egg- Ee chirps loudly when done, broody comes running back. I exchanged the 7 infertile eggs that accumulated under broody for three BCM that DMRippy sent me (she sent me 9 THANK YOU, so 6 went to the Bator). I am sitting out in the coup waiting for the switching of the guard after a new egg is laid, so I have a super fresh egg to make banana bread

I have perfected a banana bread recipe, if anyone wants a couple loafs for a swap!
Anyway, its cool to see the coordination between hens.

That's the coolest thing I've ever heard! I can't wait for mine to all be grown and maybe do neat things like that :) My four remaining grown-up rocks I kept have shown no sign of going broody -- which is fine :) With any luck at all I'll have brahmas and cochins and silkies in a few days! Hopefully a few of them will like playng mama :)

I also wanted to tell you guys my 19 month old got back into my incubation closet again last night (must install latch, the door doesn't latch on its own... So I think he just figured out he just has to pull it open) and killed my two LF Cochins that just went into lockdown. He threw them on the floor

One looked perfectly developed for day 18, and the other looks a little less, but I guess it could have been a late bloomer. I am glad he didn't get the four BCM that AyeUpChuck sent me, but I wanted those Cochins!

Oh gosh!!! That's so sad. In another year or so you'll be able to get him intrigued by the whole process -- Josh would've LOVED this when he was little! Why didn't I have chickens then??? -- and eagerly awaiting every step with you but at this point, yeah. Touch, break, explore...

I remember!

This is a loooong time in the future but if my barred cochin eggs hatch (I am totally terrified about this hatch) as soon as they are laying I'll send you new cochin eggs if you want 'em :)

Make a cup of tea or coffee, give the kids a pile of crayons and paper, take coffee out to the chicken coop and sit for ten minutes with little cluckie hens around your feet... It's amazing -- I have yet to find anything this treatment doesn't improve!

Great advice - chicken therapy. Brings the blood pressure down and the spirits up ;)

Sounds you need to sit down with a blanket, some cocoa, and a good book for a while.

hugs!
