Hatching Eggs / Paypal CHAT Thread

Came back from the PO about an hour ago to pick up my first order of hatchery chicks for the 2013 swap season. Not pretty Meyer didn't include a heat pack and only 12 made it. One is barely clinging too. You would think that since they replace their birds it would be in their best interest to do so, heck if they offered it I'd pay a couple of bucks extra. I'm sure they'll make it right but just not a fun way to start the day.

What is with these places not using heat packs in the winter? It makes no sense. Little lives lost for no darn reason. So sorry to hear!

Ugh Im so sorry...I think it should be an automatic things ALL places and people HAVE to do is use heat sources!!! WHAT THE HE$$ is the matter with people?

I ordered their brown egg layer assortment. Many of my swap customers are just looking for some good brown egg laying girls and I find that hatchery choice assortments give the best variety and price.

On a good note... I've got 6 chicks hatched out now! Just waiting on the last two eggs and they are both pipped!

All 3 NJ that made it to lockdown hatched and I'm 3/5 right now on the BBS orps.

These orps are so round and fluffy!! They look twice the size of the NJ chicks!

Good morning. I lost my good blue cochin bantam rooster to a coon. I have lost 6 Cochins this fall to a coon. I only have two left. Still sad, but I am very grateful he didn't get my black frizzled hen. She is very good quailty, even as a frizzled. The BCM where in the same roost the coon got into, and they are all ok too. Guess I am going to be building a new coop/roost today.
Oh no that is awful! So sorry to hear that!

Back in from chores in a cold drizzle this morning.

Sorry for the chicks DOA from shipping. We need to order a new supply of heat packs, darn things arent cheap, but if you want to chick day olds in winter its a must.

We have a customer coming this morning for a pair of Sebbie goslings and a pair of SFH, tomorrow we have 4 Khaki ducks and a slew of EE chicks to be picked up.

Coons are nasty critters, hope you dont suffer any more losses to them

culling new hatches when needed......... scissors work well, zip tie to the neck, I like baking soda and vinegar too as it just puts them to sleep. You can take a plastic shoe box storage box, add a small container to it with baking soda, have the vinegar ready place chick in the box slide lid in place and pour the vinegar into the BS bowl. Close lid completely and let the CO2 work.

sorry you have to do it
