I'm sorry that is horrible for my and my bator. I just had a horrible hatch for someone else on non shipped eggs. Of course my x-mas day hatch that couldn't get send out due to the blizzard ALL hatched. I just candled them again last night and you get 12 chicks.

What else did I have in there? OH! Beth's SFHs. CPL, no apologies necessary! Please! You're doing me a huge favor, it's a way better rate than I've been getting (although this bator is a vast improvement -- now we're just working on user error...) and it gives me the perfect excuse to come meet you

So I am planning a two week vacation the second half of March. I am already planning chick care! Since I don't want to leave any chicks that are too young I am going to try and not take any eggs after the first week of Feb. That way they will be hatched by the 1st and 2 weeks old before I leave. Should not effect anybody i claimed eggs from unless spring eggs come available early. I have a friend that lives a few blocks away that will come feed for me. My first long trip since I got chickens and I am already worried!

One of the boys just tried to crow OMG I haven't been this excited since I can't remember when!!!!! will post pictures in the morning. I'm just goin to let them rest tonight!!!!!

I'm so happy you were able to pick them up and they're in good condition! Woot!!!

Good news! I have three sets of eggs in the incubator now. The first are the ones I put under the broody originally. I thought they weren’t fertile, (based on breaking open another egg for breakfast) but turns out they were! I candled last night and I think I have 5 developing out of 6!!! Three Barnevelder eggs, a dorking egg and a random olive egg I got from a friend here at work.

They are about ½ way through and I think I saw movement in all 5 of them!!!!! These were my non-shipped eggs. I am so friggin nervous…this is my first time, guys. I know I am going to screw this up! The other two sets are shipped and haven’t been in there long enough to candle yet, and some of them are Marans, so I won’t be able to see anything anyways.

I guess I need to find another ‘bator to put the first set on lock-down with! And a hydro-thingie to see what the humidity is.

any recomendations on a hydro thingie?

Scared to build my own incubator. but trying to gather courage. is there a digital thermostat available that would be good for home-made incubators?

He's a nice bloke for sure. I'm kind of sad I just didn't get them from him in the first place. They'd be almost at POL if I had because e was going to send birds that were 12-14 weeks old and that was about 9-10 weeks ago. Murphey's law right.
Anyway let me know what you think of his stock. He definitely knows what he's doing. He's newer to chickens but has been raising birds and is a former USDA inspector for the imported fowl division.

Is anyone bidding on the quad of bresse on RBA? If not, I plan to.

Just wanted to tell you both about what I think of Jon's birds.

On first impression I am VERY pleased with him and will for sure buy from him again. The are the correct age/size, they look to be in good health, are a good weight, and made it threw shipping (took 2 days) without any problems. He shipped exactly when he told me he would. And gave me a tracking number right away!

I will try and post a couple pictures of them later
