Blue chick hatching for Madamwlf..

Quarantine! Building resistance... OMG LOL!!!! I have to agree, it did not work for me either. :D

The inside is painted and the roosts are installed.. one hold up with this after the other but tomorrow I'll paint the outside and while I'm doing that DH and a friend will finish the pen fence and these monster chicks can finally move outside. I can't believe how big they are and still inside.. Thanksgiving dinner was fun with an audience of 21 7 week old chicks.. so glad our guests were good sports!

Oh no!!!! I just got the last ones in the 'bator three days ago!!! I wanna see VEINS, dang it! (How long does it take to see veining on turkey eggs? I'm figuring 5-6 days...)

On the other hand, I have three very active little squigglies in my secret Santa eggs

I usually candle mine at 10, 18 and when they go into lockdown at the end of day 24

Yeah, I wasn't surprised when there was nothing to see in mine yet :) (couldn't resist peeking though, could I?) Have to say, I didn't see anything worrying, either -- definite well-defined yolk shadow, the two detached air sacs look to have reattached, yay!!! (when they're detached, I put 'em in the 'bator big side up in an egg carton for two days before I start turning -- sometimes it works

) and so everything looks good -- other than the fact that I can't see anything!!! :p

But I really do have to be good, darn it. I've spent so much I'm sweating having enough money for chickie food for all my babies hatching this month. Darn darn darn!

So I'm gonna jump offline and avoid temptation for the rest of the day. *sigh* Have fun, y'all!

Hey, has anyone here fed their chicks gro-gel? I gave some to my last hatch but they didn't seem to care for it much. And honestly, I have a hard time feeding my kiddies anything that looks that much like Soylent Green!
I have offered it to mine and have yet to actually observe any eating it. However, I have received chicks that were supplied with gro-gel for the trip and on one occasion they had finished it. So, I think its a toss-up. I had decided that unless they are shipping, they probably don't really need it.

I do give mine egg protein, I discovered it by accident, when I received a chick shipment I wasn't expecting and was already at work - they had gone priority and weren't in good shape, so I had to run to the pet supplies plus next to my office and get a heat lamp, etc. Well they didn't have chick starter but they did have egg protein for pet birds. Turns out the chicks LOVE it, and it is granulated and smaller than crumbles, so I always offer the brand new chicks some of that since it seems easier for them to eat and gives them a boost I think, then I start offering chick starter after a few days.

egg protein... I will have to get some of that and try it. I want to give mine the best boost I can when they are little.

It's also called egg food supplement, should say for all birds on it, or could say for canaries or something to that effect. It has egg protein, honey, vitamins, etc. I've tried a couple of different brands and so far its been the same each time.
