I am thrilled that I found this group...more because I love the conversations than the actual swapping, although that is friggin addictive.
I am sorry that someone was being so deceitful. I am glad that I missed him....it is hard when you WANT to trust people and someone kicks you in the gut like that.

In regards to the above posts:

I know a "disaster fund" had been set up in case this happened. I for one signed up to help those that get shafted. I myself will not get my dream birds, the Jubilee Orps., fortunately... he happened to claim on my offers also and I have not and will not send him anything at this point. So I did not really lose out.

Also: Most swapper have set up a swap page or something with pictures and # of birds etc. It is up to you to look for it. Mine is in my Swap page in my signature and pictures are in my profile.
I know there are a few of us who will be helping out. Seriously though, if something sounds to good to be true it probably is. I'm thankful all I sent him was Paint silkie eggs but I feel bad for the person on Ebay who bought them.

Yeah, I think I lost about 2 doz eggs..... time will tell, but I guess it is just a loss. I really want those pretty EE he showed.... they were so pretty

I am going to be OPTIMISTIC ...... forever

But did he really have them??? Did anyone get eggs from those birds? Good eggs?

they would have been for fun anyway.

So, you guys know I love this thread, and I have spent my fair share of pp's and claimed my share of spring eggs...and I am the last one to criticize anyone for chicken math because I am the biggest culprit when it comes to buying eggs & birds.

However, I feel like I have to say something about how I've been feeling lately with regards to the swap. Recently we had someone swapping with ill intentions. This person was claiming pp's and offering spring eggs for birds he did not own, or ever intend to own. He would send some eggs, but it turns out most of those eggs were double shipped from other sources, and very few, if any, ended up hatching for the recipients, and a high percentage ended up being rotten. He was also receivng swaps from other people on the thread and selling them on eBay to unsuspecting buyers. This person has since disappeared from the swap, and there are many people who have claimed things from him and will never receive them, and have sent their items and will now never be reimbursed. I would like to know exactly how we will deal with this situation. I personally think there needs to be some kind of decision, some kind of tally with regards to exactly what has been lost, and see if we can compensate those who are out swaps for this terrible situation. If that is already in progress, great. I think some more communication on the subject would assuage the concern going on right now.

Further, I know that because of this person, there recenty were some rules with regards to offers of spring eggs that were instituted. I'm not sure if maybe I missed some reversal of those rules, but I have noticed that they are not being followed...not everyone is being clear about the age of the birds they are offering spring eggs from. I know that there are eggs being offered from birds that are just now baby chicks. I think if a person is claiming eggs under these circumstances, they should be aware of it so they can make an informed decision.

At first when the spring eggs were offered I didn't really think it was a big deal, I claimed lots of them for myself because I was excited about the breeds being offered, and I didn't want to miss out. Now after watching the sheer volume of spring eggs flying around, I've become really uncomfortable with it, I know we are all adults, and if I'm uncomfortable then it's my prerogative not to participate, but I know there are a lot of new people here who may not realize the magnitude of what is owed come spring. I personally think we should stop with the spring eggs, for everyone's sake. When the eggs are available, it will be just as much fun swapping them then, and I no longer feel that it makes sense to swap "on credit".

I'm sorry if what I've said offends anyone, but I had to say something.
I think you've made some excellent points. The rules have prevented me from offering eggs as my breeding birds are not yet laying and it's actually a good thing in my humble opinion and offers everyone a certain level of protection. While I personally have not been directly affected by the aforementioned swapper, it saddens me greatly that so many have been. I think swapping is a great way to share eggs with others and is a whole lot of fun as well and I am confident that those I've swapped with will send eggs as promised as I will send eggs to the few I've done side swaps with. I know I'm extremely grateful to have access to some of the breeds that I have coming and that without this swap it may very well not have been possible. It's a shame that not everyone is honest and has integrity but then that's life sometimes and it happens more than one might think. I think we are all aware of this possibility and it is listed right up front on page one in the rules. I just wonder if there isn't a way to reassign the swaps so that everyone who is still owed gets something for eggs already sent or pp? Perhaps it wouldn't be exactly what they swapped for, but it would be nice to see them have their good faith honored.

My .02, for what it's worth.

Well I AM getting some jubilee chicks on about thurs this week. Hopefully I will have a better chance of receiving a few pullets and a roo! lol time will tell. IF I do and they survive (things always happen) to laying age, those that chose hens choice for spring will have the option of waiting till late spring or summer to get a chance for a few eggs when they start laying. I know it's in the future but

and saying a prayer that all things will line up, I don't mind sharing!

edited to say NOT from the person mentioned but a great breeder!
