All of our serama live in the house. With the silkie it is only the rain that is the issue up here. They live out but need to be kept dry and covered. They make excellent house critters and you could easily have your girls out in the yard/run during the day and only put your boy out in the afternoon and when you are home. They usually 'fertilize' best in the afternoon anyway. another bonus for silkie is they can't fly and are not inclined to jump where they cannot see ..... so usually don't do a roost well unless they are of utility type (small crest, narrow bodied, etc,) because of the very round shape and head furnishings.

Bottom line: GO FOR IT! Enjoy planning and raising and breeding, etc ..... and not just we need (not) another hatching addict to make us feel more 'normal'

Yes, if we can set it up for another hatch! I don't want to crowd the incubators and until I get the borrowed one up and running well, I'm afraid to set anything.. That would be great!

You are hatching. You will end up with a rooster you cant live without. If you want him inside overnight to keep from waking people up, try a dog crate in the garage or far away bathroom. Some silkie roos are downright quiet. Some are...not. Ok, most are not.

My marans are cream legbars are LOUD. Orlando the cl sounds like a parrot however so you don't always know its a rooster making noise.

We have a bacholor pad for the roos in the basement. It is an old kitchen cabinet we put straw in it and close it so they don't get up till late. The head honchos get their own crates so there is no fussing.

They still crow at 4 am however, but no one hears but us.

The whites are ABA recognized and you can show the other colors under the variety category. Just started with Seramas a few months ago. They are very addictive but very hard to hatch shipped eggs. Out of 40 eggs that I set only 6 hatched. I have 2 more sets in the bator now (1 is in lockdown) trying to get a few more. I lucked out with the first batch of chicks and got 5 girls and 1 boy. They are now 5 weeks old and my "little man" has started to crow.

ok here is another mystery chick photo session. This is the black with white/silver?? No feathers on legs. I have 2 of these. Maybe these pictures are better. Whatever they are, I think they are pretty. The other one that is harder to catch I think has a more prominent comb, so maybe

#1 yeah...I am so thrilled I found this group to chat with so I can get it out of my system so I can control myself when around other people and not talk about Chickens too much...so it is like therapy!

And oh gosh -- from Missouri? From Missouri if you mail them tomorrow they might be here Saturday. Or not -- my north/south priority mail has been taking four days to get here. East-west seems to be a little quicker, I have no idea why... So whatever you think is best!
