That was fun, but I'm glad there is a weekly limit or I'd be in hot water with no way to swim out of the cauldron!

I have absolutely nothing crossed off my prioritized "do dat" list. Sigh; back to work! I'll be on again around 3:30pm this afternoon to take care of my PP obligation. I'm going to finish up these last two reports and head to bed.

G'night!

Have a good night, Clucky! And yes, I am VERY grateful for that weekly limit, lol! Not that it's stopped me from getting myself in hot water... or knee-deep in chickens! (And how can knee-deep in chickens possibly be a bad thing???)

It's the middle of the night and everyone's in bed :) I've had one of those ridiculously up-and-down days, from being all excited that I'd have my car back and working today (it's been months since I had a working car...) and bonus on top was a chance to meet some of my fellow chicken addicts on Saturday, to realizing I was broker than I thought and couldn't possibly road-trip this weekend to discovering that I didn't have a car anyway because, having just got the exhaust all fixed, the starter is now kaput (and I spent all my money on eggs, ack!) to being all excited because my new drink-u-bator 24 hour test run went very well to realizing that, not having a car, I can't get to Lowe's for the few bits I need to make it fully operational to just plain

LOL! It's been an up and down kind of day. So I'm still up

BUT! Since I was still up and had to stir the eggs (I've given up on hand-turning, there's too many in there. I imitate a chicken and just stir them around, roll the inside ones towards the edges, roll the outside ones in...) so I figured what the heck, I'd candle a few. I haven't been too sanguine because, as you may remember, the second night after I'd JUST put my basques from pastrymama and ccls from cjwaldon in (along with a few duck eggs pastrymama sent along for fun), my cheapy little flimsy cooler incubator decided to shoot up to a tad over 104 for at least four hours overnight. GRRRR! But tonight, when I candled a random selection, there was one decidedly very much alive and kicking 11-day-developed secret Santa egg, one Basque with an unmistakable squiggle, a visible squiggle (read "four-day-old embryo") in my lone magpie duck egg, at least one ccl with a squiggle (they look green, which is wild! Light blue shell/reddish-orange squiggle=green embryo, lol!) and three of my turkey eggs, while not unmistakably developing, decidedly DON'T look like they did two days ago (I'm candling them far too early, I know, I know! But I WANTS them nastygansetts!!!!) (you'd have to be from Maine...)

So

I definitely did not torch all my eggs!

I am worried about my Swedish Flower Hens, which have been in there almost a week. I wasn't able to confirm or deny anything with the three I checked, and I kind of have this sinking feeling that embryos may be more vulnerable at different stages to unexpected swings in temperature, so I'm just

really, really hard on them!

So this long, long day has ended on a happy up-note, and I wanted to come share it and leave some happy news for everyone for the morning! Now I can go to sleep and dream of happy little chickies, not broken *&^%!! starters!

Oh, and I almost forgot -- my five grownup girls out in the barn have finished their molt and are finally laying again! I have fresh eggs waiting for me for breakfast, yay!!!

Congrats!!!! I think the paypal ones are very satisfying when you are still on probation....you can cross it off immediately.

congrats on the developing egglets and on the breakfast eggs!

I am up at 3am worrying about Frodo the goat kid. still scouring (diareah) after 6 days of really bad runs, he is looking skinny and has developed an opportunistic resperatory thing. slight fever so probably pneumonia. I hit him with some antibiotics last night for that, but the real root cause is the diareah...he is getting so skinny. I may be calling in the vet tomorrow. ($$$$)

it pisses me off that I can do nothing right now and need my sleep but cant sleep.

but the chickens are all fine! no drama there!

Oh no!!! Oh, that's totally ucky! Poor guy!

Okay, I can think of one thing you can do right now, if you've got any, which is to feed him some yoghurt :) Seriously, yoghurt contains acidophilous which is the main "healthy" bacteria in almost all milk-consuming animals' intestines. Both diarrhea and vomiting tend to really reduce their numbers, which in turn weakens the digestive system, which in turn often worsens the condition... And it's got protein, and milk sugar, and all kinds of good, yummy things for unhappy kids. And goats :)

I hope he feels better!
