So, I listed like 8 free roosters on CL, and I cannot believe how many calls I am getting. But last week when I listed them for a couple bucks each... Nothin'!

Anyway, a lady is coming to pick out one, and is bringing me golden sebright eggs for exchange. Sounds like a good deal to me! I was having a hard time understanding her, so I really hope they won't be mixed breeds.

So, I don't have much experience selling birds, but I really think you have to be careful with 'free to good home' ads. Whether its roos or cats & dogs, often they are snatched up by unscrupulous people who take free animals are reselling them or using them for illegal purposes. I know it's tempting because you want to get rid of them, but I would be really nervous letting any roos go for free. Anyone who legitimately wants one shouldn't have a problem paying a few bucks for them. That being said, I haven't had any luck selling my extra roos, even when I list them for $5.

I've been very lucky with my free or almost free CL listings so far -- both times they went to homes with kids. One delightful boy even won top trio award at his little town fair with two of my extra NH red hens! (I don't think their standards were particularly stringent... lol!) But yes, there are people out there who certainly aren't up to any good...

We have tons of illegal chicken activity so I have to charge and vet for my extra roosters. (Sorry that was meant to quote don't know why it didn't.

Agreed. However, someone might buy your $5 rooster for the same thing.

The lady came by and took two roosters, and bought my beautiful blue cochin roo for $10. She said she had 40 hens and only one rooster, and it was time to add some.

The other people interested, I kind of screened them, one is a kid in 4h who wants some of my bantam Cochins (clear) and the other was a woman who's father moved in with her and wanted to get him a flock of roosters for Christmas (clear). I haven't given any thing away to anyone who hasn't given me a good story. That being said, someone could take a rooster just to eat it, that's perfectly acceptable to me...all theroosters i was giving away where under three months, they are too young for me to butcher, and my big blue cochin was too much of a pet to me. I just didn't have any hens for him and he was going through puberty and was pickin on everyone.

I hatch so many I have to give them away. I usually make it an all or nothing deal.... no picking and choosing breeds. The guys I give them to, grow them out for meat. Which is a good thing since most of the roos are really culls that don't need to be breed. If I have some that I grow out and then cull them I try to sell them to recoup some money for feed.

ON the updating thing with IE.... Wynette said IE and this new platform don't get along very well. I have been using Firefox and have not had any issues that I know of.

One of my lav orp pullets laid her first egg today!... Now if the older hens would get a clue. Their molt is over, chop chop!

I have IE and haven't had any problems... of course, now that I say that, I probably will.

The one chick I have hatched 3 days after due date.  I have not given up yet!  Crazypetlady is going to send me some chicks one of these days!  I need to get a good picture of the one I have.  She is a pretty little thing!

I just candled last night and there are some Serama in there. Hopefully they hatch on the right day for shipping. 1st I forgot the presidents holiday then I thought thanksgiving was a week later than it was then I ran out of boxes. It takes some planning to ship chicks. I'm stocked up on boxes, heat pads and grogel now I just need the chicks to hatch on the correct days. So I can as my DH says "shove it in a box and mail it" I prefer place it in the box and ship it.

You can see how overjoyed Myrlynn the black and white cat was with this. Almost looks evil! his name should have been Garfield. Last pic of him shows his Tude!!!

Well Thomas is missing. Just got this computer back and finding that some of my pics are gone. Thomas is one of them. This is him normally.

Oh wow, beautiful cats. I miss having kitties. Going to sneak one in here one day.
