I have a question for the swap :) Would anyone want LF barred cochin eggs? This wouldn't be anytime soon, but I'm considering getting some barred cochins and just wondered if there'd be any interest in them. They're BIG birds!

No, but it seems others may be hatching blues from my eggs.

I don't think that is genetically possible, I thought you had to start with blue in order to get blue? It's not like lav which is autosomal recessive and can be hidden in a generation if the bird only carries one copy. Unless one of the other SFH colors masks blue?

I would!! Well, actually, I am thinking about getting rid of my birchen cochin bantam and getting barred instead. Or, I might get rid of bantams all together, and work on LF Cochins instead.

Quote: I do have some blue in my hens, but it is not the predominant color. It is in the hackles and tails. Like this one:

These are two of my SFHs, the one on the right is my blue one. I love the differences you get with this breed. I have 3 hens and they are all different.

The 3rd hen is more of a black based one. Had the black and yellow down with eyeliner as a chick. She is the one on the right in this photo. Next to her (top middle) is my Wheaten Maran roo. His hens are in there too. I hatched these all out together from shipped eggs. They are just 20 weeks old now in for winter they will be sharing a coop. Come spring everyone will be separated out into breeding pens.
