Cucky, how did your birds do last night? I lost two pre-juveniles even with the coop closed up and a heat lamp for them. Drat, one of them was a SFH, too.

Sorry for you loss....

I lost 2 young guinea and probably one other will die by tomorrow. So far I lost 4 of the 7 I put out about a week ago..... 3 still alive, 1 not doing to well. I think they will get to stay in the shop all winter....

It rain here for 4 days off an on. Last night was the most and it leaked in the run right where they were sleeping and got the box wet and they got too cold......

I will never hatch guinea this late in the year. Spring or NONE... that is going to be my motto from now own with guinea.

I am hoping it will warm up enough for me to get the BULK of my chicks outside and it not kill them.

Aww I'm so sorry your two passed away :( That is so sad. Guinevere and your Lancelot ( I keep having to remind myself he's not staying) did a lot better after I removed the heat lamp. It was out there for maybe an hour and when I checked on them for the last time, they were as far away as possible from it...which told me they actually didn't like it; I removed it and went to bed. They've been digging in the grass and frozen dirt all day, in addition to their feed so I think they're fine. There's no signs of frostbite or any strange behavior...seem to be chipper and healthy.

Their water, plus the waterer, plus the heating element were all frozen solid this morning though, so they drank a TON of water when I gave them fresh this am. Waste of 20 bucks because that stupid heating element froze too, and broke.

I've gone out about every 3 hours or so to check their water and it's okay so far, but it will probably freeze up again during the night.

I'm so sorry you lost some :(

Wow I'm sorry for your guineas! So sad that all these little fluffies are freezing. I hope the rest stay dry and alive for you.

[Edited to add] I did notice that even though it was only in their coop for 1 hour, that heat lamp made everything in the coop kind of soggy. The aspen and pine shavings were dewy/moist and the roosts had condensation on them, and Lance's comb was kind of wet. I don't know if that has anything to do with freezing birds, but they actually seemed warmer when I removed the heat lamp and his comb was dry this morning.

Some swap eggs that have hatched in the last few days.

A RIR from Sutillman

Some silkie/SG from Seabrightmom

The two blue SG's

And these were my own eggs, but I was pretty excited to get 2 silkies & 4 SG's, all paint (some spots are more obvious than others, but they'll develop).

And still have 3 paint eggs from emvickery (in lockdown, 1 pipped) and 1 paint egg from madamwolf.

All my waterers were outside all day today and were just starting to freeze over at dusk. I empy them all every night that I think they might freeze, put them empty in the garage, then refill them in morning. Too soon I will have to put the waterers inside the coops to slow them from freezing. I'm already looking forward to spring.
