..... and while Im posting, I'm going to whine. Because there are not many people I can tell this story to.

yesterday I happily set my NYD hatch eggs 6 dz trader joes fertile eggs, 47 of mine and swaps from the pp/HE swap. Stuck them in the incubator took my pictures and went on my merry way. Go out to check the temp and notice its a little low, will have Mario check it out tonight.

While eating dinner he looks up and says " I wonder if the eggs are turning too far and will fall off" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE RAN out to look, and sure enough, I have 119 eggs plopped down on the bottom. many unfamily friendly things were said, and I carefully took them out one by one to see what could be saved.

I saved 2 icelandics, about 12 marans and olive eggers( those eggs ARE stronger then others! its true) , some of the small eggs from my other swap, but no arkansas blues or silkie eggs or Sumatra's. I am going to get more tj's eggs today and refill. We put a bungee cord up the front to hold everything together so the trays wont slip. I think it must be a known problem because there are 2 little holes on the metal on the top and bottom of the turning rack for hooks. This is what you get for not having a manual or many people around that still use these incubators. Luckily I found a thread of a few people with this model and we are trading facts. I'll be posting over there next. ( and the NYD hatch thread, there are people trying to guess my hatch rate, I'm going with low)

I'll see what I can do about the Blues and the Sumatras. I have a couple of people waiting on the Blues, but... I can send some in a little while. I don't use any extra lighting so my three hens aren't being really reliable right now. I know they are from production breeding, but I would rather have an extended life than have them lay themselves out in 2 years like the production hens. Needless to say, I am very sorry for the loss of the rest of your eggs.

That is one of my nightmares come to life. I had a dream after I got my Sportsman that the racks started spinning 360's.

At least its easy to fix. Next time you have a dream about it, throw some bungee cords in there!
I have a sphynx cat and a hairless dog

And I love your hairless avatar, one of the most fun to look at! is it the same gene that does it in mammels?

That is a very sweet and generous offer. Clearly I should wait a little anyway since i should make sure I am done with the major learning curve. Thanks to everyone for the sympathy. It was not terrible but man it was a shock, i needed to kvech.

for some reason it didnt quote, but i'm so sorry about your missing roo sir u m. I'm always a mess when a bird goes missing.

It has been raining all day here untill 10 min ago, and a customer wanted to see one of the babies in my yard. Of course she got out and made me run everywhere in the mud. Usualy they are not happy about being chased, but I think she was having fun, little cheeky devil!

I do believe there are birds that are naturally naked.  Weird looking

...reminds me of the first time I saw a skinny guinea or a sphynx cat.  Skinnies look like mini-hippos and sphynxes look like...well...sphynxes look like hairless cats. :gig

I have a sphynx cat and a hairless dog :)

Do you have to bathe them regularly?  I've heard you need to do it for skin care and keep them covered in sunscreen/lotion.

Deb

Yep more the cat then the dog when it comes to baths, the cat produces a lot of natural oils that would normally get wicked away by hair so he will get a sticky greasy film on him that dirt sticks to like crazy and he doesn't lick himself clean because he doesn't like the feeling of his prickly tongue on his skin. He leaves these brown grease spots where he lays and his ears get super dirty on the inside again because no hair to keep the dirt out. He also gets his butt wiped so he doesn't get a ring around it LOL.. Both the cat and the dog wear sunscreen in the spring/summer

Yay! Eggs are finally set :) Still need to clean up from the construction process, run things out to the barn, check on chickens, post egg pics... Frankly all I really want to do right now is take a nap

I cannot even vaguely imagine trying to hold one of my cats still long enough to put sunscreen on it!
