this just happened to me last month and I still salvaged a good hatch , never open the door and wrap as much stuff as you can around the bator, you should be fine

I'll wrap those 'bators before the next storn. This storm was supposed to miss us. I surely didn't expect to lose power.

The cockerel flew right out when we peeked in the box and we got to chase him around the house and up the stairs before we caught him. Yah, I think they're ok, just a little a hungry and thirsty, which we took care of.

So is eight hours not too long then?

I had two hatches ago lose power on two occasions. The temp went as low as 82 degrees. The ones that were 14 days in hatched just fine. The ones that were 4 days in didn't make it. I think it depends upon what stage of development they are. Bear in mind I am still a newbie in comparison to most of you guys, but that was my experience.

I hope that yours are far enough along that it won't do anything except delay the hatch a little bit.

Woo Hoo! Glad that they made it safe and sound. Which ones were these?

I'm still a newbie!

The Arkansas Blues and Buttercups are due to hatch this weekend. The most expensive eggs are on day 7 if I remember right.

I'm sorry about your eggs ... I pray they make it. From what I've heard from other people (not saying it's true but it's what I have heard) is that a cold dip in the bator isn't near as likely to cause deceased chicks as a heat spike would. When it gets too cold in there I've been told there will be developmental delays with regard to hatch time (if it is within reason, clearly freezing temps in the middle of incubation would most likely kill them)- so they may pop out a day later than they're supposed to...versus a heat spike which can kill them in short order (learned that from personal experience unfortunately). Do you know how low the temperature got inside the bator?? I'll say a chicky prayer for them, but I think they will hatch out nice and healthy for you. :]

Your cockerel and my cockerel may have been on the same truck or flight...and had an escape plan formulated by discussions through box holes.

Mine did the same exact thing (without the staircase).

I think so! The hens were all cool and collected. The cockerel says "I'm getting the heck out of here!"

Chicken morse code - peck.peck peck.scratch peck peck.peck.peck mean "hey you in the cell next to me, I got and escape plan all worked out".
