I have a broody hen! At first I wasn't sure if there was something wrong with her until it dawned on me what was going on. I brought her in the house and gave her some eggs. This is my first one! So exciting!!!

I have one too. Apparently they don't know it's winter and not a good time for them to raise babies. Might have to try bringing here in the house. Mine is a silkie. What's yours?

I...am...certifiably and irrevocably a complete noob!!   Disregard my post about an itty bitty egg.:(   It was a large turd that looked like an itty bitty egg until I tried to pick it up.:sick

Hhahahhahahhahaha

....but I think sex-link isn't auto-sexing.  Auto-sexing is where you know the genders and sex-link I *think* is just related to colors.

I believe auto sexing is breed that genetically offers a difference between males and females at hatch, such as welsummers. A sex link would be a chick that is specifically bred to have a difference between males and females. These will not produce sex link offspring automatically where auto sexing does

YES!

Auto-sexing breeds true-ALL chicks, no matter what generation, will be easily sexed at hatch.

Good Morning Everyone - Gonna have to make a trip to the feed store ASAP. Ran out of chick starter/grower last night and everyone is telling me about it.... They told me last week the cost would be going up, it was high enough already. Its bad when chicken food is on your list for Santa!!

I have a broody NJ!

Not only is it unusual for an NJ to go broody, but it's the wrong time of year. She doens't know quite what to do, and doesn't cover the eggs effectivly, bet she gets an A+ for effort. But she doesn't get to keep the eggs.

I didn't even look at my 'bators last night. This morning I rearranged them for lockdown. I could only see 4 of 10 Campines still moving. I think the rest quit before yesterday though. They just don't look right. One Arkasas Blue eggs is still viable, not sure on the other one. But all three of the bantam Sicillian Buttercups are still kicking around in there. The smallest eggs in the smallest 'bator are the most lively. But sadly an Isbar decided to make it's debut yesterday. It pipped at the wrong, hit a blood vessel and bled out. I'll wait a couple of days to candle the rest of the eggs, between day 2 and day 10.

Me too! I asked for a "ton" of chicken food. Then I clarified for DH that would be 40 bags. But the family wanted to know my wish list NOT chicken related. I couldn't come up with anything!

My family lives in various parts of the state and we always try to get small gifts ($20.00) or less for each other for Christmas. I truly did list chicken items. One sister called and left a message that simply said "SERIOUSLY!".... I guess I am truly chicken obsessed. My sisters are going to be so surprised this year! I bought decorated eggs from a very special lady here on BYC!! She made them into ornaments. They didn't believe me when I told them their gifts were "chicken" related....
