Side sprigs..... are genetic. And will breed forward and pop up when you least expect it. I don't breed birds with side sprigs.
Yes, I bought a group of chicks from a well known breeder. They weren't extremely $$$, but they certainly weren't feedstore birds either. I ended up keeping five, we ate about fifteen, all with side sprigs. It's one of the easiest things to can cull for. Although you sometimes have to look pretty close on the pullets. The few I kept are just up to POL now, so I will be watching those F1's like a hawk. I may end up having to cull them as well and the adults. I did hunt down a second line and am currently raising those unrelated babies.
Figures i turn 35 and the worlds sapose to end . Happy birthday to me lol
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
May the days get longer from here!!!!
Yes, nice long days, more eggs laid, during chores during daylight, the mud drying up, not having to wear three layers of clothes......................

It has it's place, like in a cocktail
My juvenile pair choc Wyandottes just showed up. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THEY HAD BEEN SHIPPED!!!! I have no tracking number. The postmark on the box says they were shipped on 12/19.
Well at least they made it safely as I didn't even know to be looking for them.
That is exactly the way I got a box of 24 dead chicks. If they don't tell you they're coming, you can't start hounding the post office for information. I ALWAYS drive down to the sorting hub and spring my birds out of warehouse jail. The only deaths I've had with live birds, is if I let them sit there waiting for the one truck run per day that comes up the hill (apparently I live in BFE).
We actually got in a huge fight last night about chickens. He says chickens are all I care about, and I was mad because its like the only hobby or fun I have, and I tired of him complaining.
I am a stay at home mom, who has very little money to go out and do things for fun, I don't have ANY friends here- we have lived here for a year and I have no idea how to meet people when I don't work. My options for fun are very minimal. Chickens are not only enjoyable for me to watch, hatch and care for, there's also a lifetime of learning and research which I love. He gets to go to work, make friends, and hang out them after work any time he wants (because he does what he wants) so I don't think he realizes how bored and lonely I can get. I love being home with my kids, but it is nice to have something for myself.
I hope he starts trying to understand... I don't plan on stopping just because he won't understand. Sigh.
My DH & DS ask me what I want. DS asks what DH wants. I say flat what I want starting around Nov, but still here..............what do you want, you haven't said anything.....................then I say, I told you, I even showed you the ad!.................
The being alone with your hobby, I totally understand
Family/friends would have no problem with it if it was a hobby they would like. Then it's logical you are interested. "If you like what I like, you are a fascinating/focused person. If you like something that doesn't interest me, you are strange/obsessive".
Just like what interests you, this isn't practice, it's the only life you get here on Earth (maybe none after today
).
