Quick update on the power outage while the SFHs were hatching - all 5 of them survived and are doing great! Soooo happy!!!!

I'll post a pic of them later when I uncover the laptop. My house is in complete disarray. We're having furniture delivered and have our living room full of all the furniture to be moved out. The laptop is hidden in there somewhere.

Woot on the SFH!!!

That is so irresponsible of them. What if they got dropped of at your house early and you where gone all day?! Here in the summer they would die of exposure after a couple hours.

You can't look for them if you don't know they're missing. Heaven forbid if you were out of town on vacation for the next two weeks!

Me either! My husband can't think of gifts to save his life, and he keeps asking what I want. There's no point telling him, because he won't get me chicken stuff. That's ok... I told my mom I wanted a gift card to ace for feed and coop building supplies. At least SHE listened!
We actually got in a huge fight last night about chickens. He says chickens are all I care about, and I was mad because its like the only hobby or fun I have, and I tired of him complaining.
I am a stay at home mom, who has very little money to go out and do things for fun, I don't have ANY friends here- we have lived here for a year and I have no idea how to meet people when I don't work. My options for fun are very minimal. Chickens are not only enjoyable for me to watch, hatch and care for, there's also a lifetime of learning and research which I love. He gets to go to work, make friends, and hang out them after work any time he wants (because he does what he wants) so I don't think he realizes how bored and lonely I can get. I love being home with my kids, but it is nice to have something for myself.
I hope he starts trying to understand... I don't plan on stopping just because he won't understand. Sigh.

You need a part time job. I would go stir crazy if I couldn't get out once in a while.

Had 5 of 6 NJ hatch from cjwaldon

Last batch had all girls. Here are pictures I just took. What do you think -- boys or girls???
I'm still not good at the auto sexing. I think they would need to come out green and purple for me to make a positive ID....

They refused to hold still, but these three look the same.

And the other two look alike....

Basically, three have a lot of cream color and the other 2 have only a small patch on their head..

I only see BOYS in all three pictures.

It's 10:30 and I haven't started cleaning yet!! Its cold out today (28) and I have 50+ chicks in my kitchen. I keep telling myself I can not turn on the vacuum because it will scare them......

They'll get over it. I just vaccummed using the beater head right up next to the box of chicks. No reaction from them.
