Had not thought of that! I do the same. Get up = make coffee - Catch up on what I missed last night. This site has become a regular part of the day.

Haha, me too=)

I also wanted to tell you guys my 19 month old got back into my incubation closet again last night (must install latch, the door doesn't latch on its own... So I think he just figured out he just has to pull it open) and killed my two LF Cochins that just went into lockdown. He threw them on the floor

One looked perfectly developed for day 18, and the other looks a little less, but I guess it could have been a late bloomer. I am glad he didn't get the four BCM that AyeUpChuck sent me, but I wanted those Cochins!

So sorry!!! I know I have days like that with my kiddos, too... sometimes I have to put myself on time out to calm down.... some days it's like everything that possibly could go wrong, does go wrong... so

Also regarding the backwards swap. The Chicken Trivia contest will be held during the backwards swap. I believe after 4 swaps, a trivia question will be presented. People will post their answers on the thread, I think I can keep up better that way.

Thanks! My kids named him Chewbacca, and call him Chewy. Which I personally find hilarious. If I bred him with a Rhode Island White, would I get sexlinked chicks? He's got some red in him, is that enough of the "gold" needed for sex link?
EE's have too muddy of a background to get sexlinked chicks unless you isolate and breed back

he is a pretty and large roo

All you can do is give it a shot. Keep an eye on the membrane so it doesn't dry out.

Is it bad when you best laying birds right now are your silkies?
Yes. I have 1 showgirl and 1 Oe laying. SIlkies got light a week ago, everyone elses are going in today. The silkies cant see that its cold and wet, so they jsut keep laying and going broody....

My CCL have light and decided it wasn't good enough. We added more light today and hope that kicks them in gear again. Doesn't help that we've had 3 days of snow and at least 2 days of high wind.
