I know how you feel.  this morning as we were doing our morning chores my husband said that the eggs were alone...no broody.  I told him that was okay, that getting up to eat and drink and stuff was normal.  but then he said...no, she's freeranging with the others.  she'd abandoned the eggs!  so I called a friend and she drove her new bator over and while getting ready for a new years day party at my house, I also set up the bator and tried to warm the eggs back up.  no time to test the bator or get the temp right or anything.

I put them in a cooler for a while with a heating pad over top of them, but now I am worried that it was too hot.  garsh...I really did everything wrong.  sigh.  and the partygoers showed up and all I could so was deal with that...so it will be a miracle.

I haven't read up on this ...I thought the broody would be handling this.  I feel like the father reading the how-to baby book while the mom is screaming in labor...
I've had that happen before as well. I got so angry. Had to break out the bator. Had a somewhat successful but poor hatch. I have a separate area in our coop that's my broody hotel. I currently have four Ams that I keep because they've been amazing broodies and mommas. I'm just praying that they didn't get too cold last night! I put heat in tonight though as its going to get to about 20 here.

What breed of broody did this to you? I will be relying on my broody hens to hatch most of my eggs for me, as I can't keep the temperatures steady enough for my incubator in my wood stove heated house. I have one Silky broody and one Phoenix broody so far, and just added another Silky broody and her daughter. If that was a Silky.. I may have to change my plans!

FIVE!!! We're up to five!!! My one little mystery chick, a buff brahma (YAY, Sah! We got a buff!), I'm pretty sure two coronations, and one that I can see the shell it came out of but not what's written on it -- I need to stay awake for hatching or I'll never know who's who, lol!

They are, of course, all wet and sleepy and draped in a heap atop my marans eggs! Should I worry about suffocation? Or will they move when someone starts kicking underneath?

Next time, I'm getting those little plastic baskets at the dollar store and putting eggs in those so I know who's who...

Okay, off to catch up on the 100+ (!!!!) posts from the past five hours!

Winners have been announced on the GFF egg guessing contest. Pictures have been posted as well. Check the link in my sig block

It's not in your siggy anymore??? couldn't find the winners...

Didn't catch up on the thread yet but wanted to update they got the power back on. I think they were only about 5-6 hours without power so should be ok. Gonna look into generators for the future though!!
YAY!!!!!

Does having a swap in the reverse swap count towards my 7? (It would put me at five, yes I am counting... not that I think I will need it, but ya never know.

Is anyone using the feedback spreadsheet? I don't see that many people have added to the spreadsheet and I think that is a great resource for both parties on the swap. It lets the shipper know if they are having shipping issues or fertility issues in the eggs and it lets the receivers know who has the best results with shipped eggs. It only has 19 entries..... and I know we have had way more swaps than that.

Here is the link to ENTER the info... I personally wait till they have hatched so I don't have to get my post edited.

Here is the link to the Feedback page.... to me that was really replaced by the feedback form, but I think most are still just posting general comments there..... but the spreadsheet is easy to navigate.... I think... it only has 19 posts LOL

BTW KYT the hatch rate is getting changed to a DATE now.
