I've had that happen before as well. I got so angry. Had to break out the bator. Had a somewhat successful but poor hatch. I have a separate area in our coop that's my broody hotel. I currently have four Ams that I keep because they've been amazing broodies and mommas. I'm just praying that they didn't get too cold last night! I put heat in tonight though as its going to get to about 20 here.I know how you feel. this morning as we were doing our morning chores my husband said that the eggs were alone...no broody. I told him that was okay, that getting up to eat and drink and stuff was normal. but then he said...no, she's freeranging with the others. she'd abandoned the eggs! so I called a friend and she drove her new bator over and while getting ready for a new years day party at my house, I also set up the bator and tried to warm the eggs back up. no time to test the bator or get the temp right or anything.
I put them in a cooler for a while with a heating pad over top of them, but now I am worried that it was too hot. garsh...I really did everything wrong. sigh. and the partygoers showed up and all I could so was deal with that...so it will be a miracle.
I haven't read up on this ...I thought the broody would be handling this. I feel like the father reading the how-to baby book while the mom is screaming in labor...
