Close enough. Doesn't even have a clear door on it.

chick boxes can only be used for chicks, ducklings and goslings 72 hours old and younger.
This box can ONLY hold newly hatched birds (note the holes with NO BIO FILTERS) 72 hours or younger.
Horizon also makes a version it looks like the other below (red & white) minus the biofilter

50 chick box............. note the bio-filters installed and MANDATORY for ALL birds shipped over 72 hours old, but is a very short box

This is the single stall shipper.....next smallest box and what should be used for juvenile birds and can hold 2 maybe 3 birds (depending on size, age and weight)

Can you put tape over the holes in the chick box to keep colder air off the chicks?

no the holes are positive airflow and ventilation, the brown boxes are what is commonly used by the big hatcheries. I dont like them because of the open holes allows anything the size of a pinky finger or smaller to pushed inside the box.

I prefer to get the 50 chick boxes with bio - filters, they offer draft protection and nothing or no one messes with the birds inside through the holes.

Again, to everyone I owe Cream Legbar eggs to my girls are on strike!!! I've not gotten an egg from them in over a week. Apparently they didn't like the snow or the cold either. I'm really sorry. They have lights on them but really, does that mean anything if they don't want to lay??

I will be able to give you feedback on my experience with him if you ever want to try birds from him.  I have 2 trios coming and if I like them he has offered me some additional pullets.  He also has CCLs I might try from him.  So I should have some feedback.  I already like him so far.  He at least sends on time and gives you a tracking number!

He's a nice bloke for sure. I'm kind of sad I just didn't get them from him in the first place. They'd be almost at POL if I had because e was going to send birds that were 12-14 weeks old and that was about 9-10 weeks ago. Murphey's law right.

Anyway let me know what you think of his stock. He definitely knows what he's doing. He's newer to chickens but has been raising birds and is a former USDA inspector for the imported fowl division.
