Last 2 summers, we were in the 100s.

I moved to NC from FL 3 years ago to escape the heat and with the promise that winters are mild. SOooo naturally we get here in Jan. of 2010, leave 70* FL and it is 19* in NC. 2 weeks later it snowed. The local swear that was the 1st snow in years ! Snowed 3-4 Xs and the summers are HOT & HUMID...Just like FL.

See? It was just trying to say "welcome to not-Florida"! Although I have to admit, having lived all my adult life in Maine or New Hampshire, the idea of moving to NC to escape the heat... Well...

I really like the mid-Ohio climate -- the winters are a joke (after five years in Berlin NH, located in a perfect natural wind tunnel at 2000 feet elevation on the north side of the White Mountains, brrrr!) and there's only maybe 10-12 days every summer that are just too stinkin' hot. But the boy likes Virginia, so I suspect eventually that's where I'll be :)

I might have to cancel all future shipments of eggs.

I'll know after 11:30 or so. Two jails are closing, which means lots of jobs lost. George is the Major, which means he's not union. He also has over thirty years in, which means he could be forced to retire, which means half of his retirement would go to his ex wife. We're already trying to watch our money and I have to finish school then go for RN schooling. If anyone has a spare moment to send an extra prayer or anything, I'd greatly appreciate it. We just need time for me to finish RN school and start working.

AUGH!!!! Oh, BIG hugs, Bettacreek! That's scary as heck, even if it all works out fine

But ya know, if he does retire, chickens make an excellent hobby... Just sayin'!

Yes, Rachael was just fine with the surprise-HONEST! She said she was really wanting more SF anyway, since she has a little roo with no hens.

And you do NOT need to send me anything!

I got my Peafowl on Friday!

3 cocks and 5 hens-all FREE! They are all India Blue, I believe. Do they do best in pairs, or can you keep 3 hens and one cock?

I keep 5 hens and three males together. They get along fine. It's just up to you. Some said they may fight, but mine have gotten alone great. I do have a large place for them, so that may make a difference. I have 3 different colors of peacock so I really did not want to get rid of any. They are beautiful when they are all strutting at the same time.... Congratulations!! I know I don't have to send you anything - I'll make sure I get as many birds as I can in the box, how would that be.... As soon as the heat pad is here, they are ready to be shipped!

Great News - Our postmaster drove to Hillsboro, MO to pick up my chickens!! He called and should be here by 2:30. I do not know what kind of trip they have had, or how well they are, but they are ON THE WAY HOME!!

Now just pray for healthy birds....

Fluids first for the first hour once you un-box them. Then you can offer food again. (this is what we recommend for all our buyers when the birds arrive)

Bettacreek - have you heard anything yet? Your family is in my prayers!

madamwlf - I am relieved that your larger than expected chicks made it to you safely!

Redbrush & BM6 - I have my fingers crossed that your new babies arrive today!

Has anyone heard from Clarence? I am hoping his mom is doing a little better today.

Prayers for everyone today!
