Anyway, you inspired me. I have a batch of cinnamon raisin bagel dough rising right now. In fact, getting close to the boiling stage already. Yum................cream cheese and I'm set!

Batch three is probably going be be the one with the crispier crust... I love me a super chewy bagel, so that's what I am testing for.

Donna... soooo sorry you have been sick!! It seems to be a whopper of a cold/flu season this year.... I work in the hospital here, and we have already lost I think 4 people to influenza... scary stuff!!

LOTS of snow here... it is weird to read about you guys in the midwest having your snow melt... I guess I thought you guys kept your snow during the winter?? Guess not!! If it snows past the middle of December here, it's usually here to stay until at least February... and just keeps getting deeper... I had a trail to the coop, but had a few new inches of snow this morning to trudge through... I walked through their run and made a path for them to the other little house they like to hang out in... Wish they could be free-ranging, but they stay inside most of the day anyway, so it doesn't matter, and they don't like digging through the snow, so it wouldn't do them much good!! Time to start the fodder!

I need help. I have noticed eggs missing from under my broody silkies this has been going on for months and I thought they were eating the eggs. Well when I looked and there were 5 eggs missing from under her from just last night, I recovered 4 of them and 1 was right up next to a hole under the ground.

DO I have a rat problem and how do I take care of it without harming my chickens. My worthless barn cats aren't doing there job and ever since I lost my faithful flock protector dog in 2011 she used to get the rats my other dogs won't. Now I have a problem. If it is rats they are taking the eggs from my broody silkie hens every time my silkies go broody.

Oops, forgot about this post.... one of the breeders around here uses something I think they call a rat zapper.... But I think it only kills one rat at a time, but at least you don't have to worry about the birds getting to the poison or anything... If I understand correctly what she was saying, it's a metal box which has to be reset once something has gone in it.. I need to go over to the ID thread and ask.... she swears by it...

Okay so I have some good news. I just got off the phone with the state vet and the I Lu way they will take any birds is if AI is present. She said that they would test the other flocks as well before they were taken as well if that were the case. I won't find out until next week what we're dealing with but that sets my mind at ease. Still being crazy secure with the quarantine.

If anyone I owe eggs to wants to wait for whatever reason until this blows over I'm not at all offended in any way shape or form. Just PM me. I won't be cross or angry. I just need to know who I'm sending eggs to this weekend. Also I have a harmless disinfectant called star-San that I can lightly spray them with. Not sure how it will affect the bloom but its your call. Just let me know!

Oh, that is good news! I'm so glad for you, Heather. Sounds like you have someone reasonable there, which is good -- I know some places can get pretty draconian.

I don't think eggs for me are an issue yet. Are they?

Imagine my surprise when I get home to a little yellow chick that hatched. I didn't know Jubilees hatched yellow.

I started freaking out trying to figure out what happened.

I had lots of chicks greeting me in the hatcher!! Another White Legbar! Yeah. I don't think the duck eggs are doing well though. First time trying though.
