No, I need to focus on just the breeds I have. I still need to build min. 4 breeding pens. If I add any, I won't ever be able to catch up!

I was gonna say..... ummm.... can help you out there! lol

I have a 5x7 ft coop and a chicken yard thats about 70'x90'. i sold a bunch of my birds when it started training for real, assuming they'd spend more time in the coop, but they don't. They sleep and lay there. the rest of the time they're outside, regardless of the weather. I think I need more birds. :)

If I can prove that I can pay for chicken food by selling eggs and chicks or actually turn a (very) small profit, I think I could get my husband on board a little more and I would get Orps. After I sold some chicks today and with my Dutch laying now, he actually is not complaining about the chickens. Which he does like a twice daily medication. Anti chicken med.

AyeUpChuck- I will be able to hatch your black Dutch chicks in about a month. I have to get a box and do some major research into shipping chicks. Is there a date you would like them by?

Nope it's totally up to you. I'm giving them to a friend who's starting with chickens. He's setting up all of his breeding pens and runs as we speak. Hes only going to do a few breeds CPL is going to be sending Rhodebars and SFH as well.

It's pretty great. He's a farmer by trade and he's doing this for his five year old son. They currently breed rabbits as well. He wants to teach his son responsibility for money and animals. They have spreadsheets and a separate bank account for him. So no rush! In fact if you want hold off a bit ill see if he wants to potentially but a few extra.

:lau I think we have the same DH! Mine used to and occasionally still does complain. He said they'd never be able to hold their weight with all the money we spent on the coop etc. then I started selling hatching eggs and chicks etc. he doesn't complain too much anymore. Especially when I point out that dog food is more expensive and they don't bring in ANY money :gig

I had horses first which really just suck away your money so my DH loves my "useful" pets...except when they poo on the porch steps:lol:
