It has been way too long! I hope everyone is well! I just got back from a week long class where we crammed 40 hours of learning into 9a-6p classes M-F. Oh joy...

Oh yes, I am. It cured me for a little bit since I haven't hatched any babies in over 3 months.

It just depends on how confident you are with your candling. I usually pull clears and bloodrings at day 7. But, as long as nothing smells/weeps, it hurts absolutely nothing to leave them in there.

Dark eggs (brown or blue), I usually leave if I can't see clearly. With a dark egg, I find a clear glows when you candle it. The developing chick just makes it look darker/fuller.

Thanks for the tip on dark eggs! I hadn't thought about that.

Not completely confident in my candling skills, so I'll leave all in at least until I candle again at day 10.

I keep sniffing at the little vent holes to make sure nothing is smelly - my Mr. just shakes his head like I'm a weirdo.

People will regale you with stories of exploding eggs, I'm not saying that doesn't happen, but much rarer than people would lead you to believe. The egg that went bad was one I never wanted to set (DH begged). It was an egg I found buried in mud and actually washed it under running water. It went bad pretty quickly.

If you have a bad egg, you'll know it.

Ok, well I am still trying to figure out of a few of those mystery chicks. After much research, I believe one of the mystery pullets is looking to be a hedemora. Still a few others to figure out...
