I am still trying to figure out growing fodder. It sure is hard to make sense of things with a headache. I want to do this. I'm no dummy, but right now I feel like one!

I haven't started yet either. I can't get a straight answer on sprouting Producer's Pride whole oats. Some have said as long as it's whole and untreated, it'll sprout, but also hearing that oats turn to mush and don't sprout well.

I will be starting a new batch tonight. I happen to be a very visual learner, would it help you if I posted step by step pictures? I have a very small system right now, but it has been working pretty well for almost four months, minus the month I stopped over the holidays...

I haven't tried oats. What I have read it that it can be done, but they are much more difficult to get to sprout due to (can't think of proper terms but) the fact that they get a mucous type reaction to water. I believe that Lacy Blues has been able to sprout oats and that she started off with a bleach soak to prevent mold.

I have had a hard time getting the oats to sprout. The wheat and BOSS sprout much better and easier. I add just a little oats and BOSS into my wheat for a little variety. You have to rinse the oats much more frequently because it turns thick and soupy.

Someone an hour and forty five minutes away has nine turkey hens, $10 each, at two years of age. These kids of mine need to learn how to poop gold nuggets! I'm hoping that I can convince G that nine hens for ninety bucks and twenty bucks in gas is way worth it!

For grown hens? That's WAY worth it! Unless they're in absolutely horrible shape or something. That's about what day-old chicks would cost -- let alone the cost of two years' worth of feed.

Can they text you pictures or something? I'd hate to see you drive that far only to discover they're mite-ridden and awful...
