Ok. I'm an addict. I am no longer in denial. 105 chicks in my brooders from Ideal today. Ok, those are not all mine.
I have hatched out 10 chicks today, few more to go. Donna's wh/bw/lav amd going into lockdown tonight. Have some more going into lockdown on the 8th, 10th.... you get the idea.
Oh, and DH said yes to the yorkie!! So I am trading some chickens for that.... does that count???? And the 105 are bantams, so really is that like 50? Or maybe even 25?? Only 1/3 of them are mine anyway.
She's in denial about being in denial.
Yea - I think they are implying that she is the Queen of De Nile
OMGoodness, I have been
on these comments and the others on chicken math!!! TOO FUNNY!!!
Ok... >500 posts when I checked today, yikes!! Had to skip pages again... here goes my attempt at commenting...
Fodder is a great way to supplement the chickens diet, especially in places like here where snow covers the ground from December to February, usually, I can give my birds some hay from time to time, but it's not as nutritious...
I collected some of my eggs in the first cold snap we had (average temp 5 degrees), had to kind of stalk the nest boxes for the hens laying, or the eggs would freeze quickly, I set 12 eggs and have 4 in lockdown now, I'm pretty sure the ones that didn't develop were shocked from the cold, because my roo in that pen has been pretty reliable, and when I opened them, they looked to be fertile, they just didn't develop...
So sorry to hear about your MIL CPL, hope she is ok, eager to hear an update, and sorry for all of you dealing with sick kiddos or are yourselves sick, I have had a cold 3 times since November, it is driving me crazy, I have been ODing on Vit C and Echinacea, lol because I will NOT get sick again!!
The cold temps are definitely brutal, we've had that here the past couple of weeks, it was actually a heat wave here today, to 34 degrees!! first time since after Thanksgiving, could actually go out without a coat, lol..
Interesting that your bird had Mareks, AyeUp... doesn't Mareks generally come with weakness/paralysis on one side?? Did your bird do that? Read on a thread about a breeder who had Mareks and just let her birds get immunity to it over the years, now no birds in the flock have signs of it and are all healthy, an interesting take on. bio-security
Already have incubating withdrawal... have eggs in lockdown, but it's been sooo cold and the girls are consequently not laying well, as soon as they resume and the eggs don't freeze upon being laid, I will collect and set some more, then hopefully by the time those hatch I can start claiming my spring swaps, Hopefully being the key phrase!!
