Which interestingly enough after this whole thing I'm getting NPIP certification! I'm also closing my flock. I'm pretty sure that Sonew's the same way. Only day-olds and eggs now. It's just too risky for me. It makes me sad but it's just been so devastating and frustrating. All the energy and emotion invested makes it difficult. Maybe one day I'll be open to it again but from people I know have the healthiest animals possible for transport. Like COF!

Yup had some serious scares a while back..Saw my buddy PC put down his whole flock too..enough was enough for me as most of these buggers are pets for me...Yes they are my breeders too, they might even get consumed by my family but in the end...their health and safety is #1 with me...Its my OCD kicking in....I hate quaranteeing birds as I dont have the proper set ups to do it..so I do eggs and days olds even the day olds Im taking a chance with! :P makes my life alot easier as well as the serious temptations to spend a gazzillion $ on birds like you..BM6... CPL...MAdam etc....I live through them with envy :D

I had to destroy my entire flock this past fall due to MG. I'm currently restocking, but like the others, only day olds and eggs....and it's still a huge risk, as MG goes through the embryo. But it's either take some risk or quit raising chickens. That's a no-brainer!

Remember all...........waterfowl are less likely to be secrete carriers of most of the major nasties chickens are so susceptible to. So if you need a new drake, gander or breeder pair of ducks/geese they are safer than chickens as juveniles and adults. Plus you know what you are buying once they are juveniles and adults where as when young its only a chance for breeder/show quality.

oh and good morning!

Quote: most of the time, I wish I lived closer to y'all, but sometimes, I am glad I dont...that sounds awful. POOR BABIES!!!

I put some eggs into a brand new Hova Bator 1588 for lockdown this week. The first night in lockdown it changed its own temp setting to 103. This morning sometime between 1 and 6:30 it reset its temp to 59 degrees.

The eggs were cool to the touch. They were due to hatch today and the one that was pipped is still alive. Has anyone had anything like this happen before? Any idea on the chances of the other eggs? I have 2 other 1588s and have never had any issues with the other two. Super disappointed with the new one and very worried about the eggs. Wonderful silkies shipped from Catdance. I'll definitely be calling Cutlers today to try to get a replacement, really bummed!

For those of you who hatch in cartons, could I use my egg turner trays? I am putting 70 some quail eggs in lockdown, and usually I just lay the eggs on their side and leave them be, but I thought it might be better to place them in something.
