it's 13 degrees and a winter wonderland outside. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. our first accumulation of snow this year. always snowy in feb and it's here promptly on the 1st!!!!!!

it's friggin bitter here...the wind is still blowing like crazy and it's just COLD.

my poor chickens...the wind is blowing all their feathers around negating the insulation of the down. I hope they find a place to hunker down.

oops...I have an egg in my pocket...LOL forgot to take it out and brought it to work.

Good Morning, Happy People!
I have one of those GNH pipped this morning, so I'm a bit happier. Plus, the pine pellets are doing such a lovely job of keeping odor down, that hubby pointed out that I have room for another two-cage setup like I have now for chicks. Yep; he's a keeper! I'll pick up those cages and some water bottles today, and try to teach the current chicks how to use them. The older ones do scratch pellets into their waterer, which then soak up all the water so they have none. The one downside to the pellets so far. But if they can't sort out the bottles, I'll order the drinking cups that fit on bottles and use those for the older birds. That should do it.

These cages should work for an indoor over-winter for quail breeding stock, too. They can be boarders in the guest room!
you can use rabbit style water bottles for the older birds too with no issues. they like the shiney tips and take right to them.

Quote: We just sold a BLRW who laid eggs like that, very sweet girl but reducing the eating egg flock to make room for breeding groups here.

Quote: Did anyone ever receive a Paypal refund on shipped eggs?

yes from an ebay purchase that the seller failed to package in a manor that allowed them to travel safely and arrive intact.

It is cold today...that wind is terrible! But I picked up some very pretty eggs from crfarm so that was nice. Plus it is hatch night for my surprise eggs from reesepoultry. Four went into lock down but two had funky air cells so we shall see. Go chickies!

received perfect Buff Faverolle eggs yesterday for post #8130 from AyeUpChuck

Ok finished reading all of the naughty neighbor story.
ep.gif
to the basket of dog poop. I add a new animal everytime our neighbor to the north complains about anything. This time its Emu! lol She informed us when we moved in that "well if we dont like the chickens we will have you move them to the other side of the property" uumm not on your life lady. She has harassed my husband last year not 7 weeks after he had his stroke about the grass being "tall". No kidding lady, is FL and summer it needs mowed three times a week. She tried to inform us that the home owners chose to be AG here for the tax break (like I am stupid enough to believe that crap) she claimed that just because we are ag doesnt mean we should have a farm.

Oh we have had animal control called, they came out saw we were ag asked if we could tell them abotu the birds we had at the time, complimented us on the clean conditions. She has called the county complaining numerous times, code and zoning told her we can have as many as we want. She has been good for one thing though............they had a survey done of JUST the property line between us and them (thinking the pasture fence was on their land) and come to find out the fence the previous owners put in was way off the line and we got to move it and claim back yard. We also seized the moment and finished fully fencing in the entire property line. Saved us a bundle on paying for a survey! LOL

Yep - getting really tired of this deep freeze stuff. Woke up this morning to -22* F with a windchill of -45*F. Yuck! My poor chickens are stuck in their coops yet another day and NO one is going to get through this winter with out some frostbite of combs and wattles.

*Haven't been over to this thread for awhile. Looks like there has been lots of changes and lots of heartache that people have been dealing with.

*CPL - So sorry to hear about all the problems in your life. I truly hope that things start looking up for you and your family. Glad you have so many awesome friends that can help out a little.

*madamwlf - Looks like you are doing an awesome job!

*KYTinPusher - Still working on those Icelandic eggs for you - but the cold has been freezing too many eggs (even though I check several times a day). Hopefully soon, the weather will cooperate

I find that if I put the water on something like a brick it gets less mess in it. Try that and see if they get fewer pellets in the water. The alternative is nipples.
