we tend to compost more than we can ever use, which is sad. I need to come up with something to do with it all before next winter.

Same here, Shellie! We have more compost than we know what to do with. Have you considered sacking it up and selling it to local farmers/backyard gardeners for their fields/gardens? That might be something.

Or even a black roo would work, right? I know you would end up with splits, but would that help make the lacing more distinct? Just asking-I don't know the answer.

Yes and no. If the black has good lacing....hard to see, I know, but in the sunlight you can see it....but then you are dealing with splits and you still have about 2 years of work on the chance that you might get some good laced lavs.
