I had my NPIP testing this morning. We had a crazy storm come through last night, so it was muddy, nasty mess, but it was worth getting a little dirty. The vet they sent was really nice and the tests came back clear. Woot! He filled out all my paperwork, but he said that it could be 2 to 4 weeks before I get my number. I guess I thought I'd get it right away. Does the paperwork he gave me today count?

Using the space per chick calculation for the Ecoglow 50, the larger sweeter heater should accommodate around 62 to 63 chicks.

do you know anything about the side mount ones they have? That would be kind of cool to mount on the side of a tote maybe...hmmmm

madamwlf and puglady - I am very sorry for your chick losses! So sad.

I am borrowing this pic from kuntrygirl on the LA thread. She is great at re-purposing! Her most recent find was a crate from a mechanic part shop. She will be using it as a brooder and said they are very light and easy to move. It's quite roomy, too!

Check your free section on Craigslist. I have been finding these and some are solid 3/4 in. plywood with lids for free! I found someone who had a 1/2 semi load that were 3'x6' for free, but Jason hasn't been able to go get them due to his work schedule.
I paid $15 at HD.

Our closest HD is 45 minutes away.
What the heck? Looks like there might be some white Rhodebars out there as well as Legbars. #53 is a GFF Rhodebar egg #. I've send an email off to Jenny as both Madamwlf and I have managed to hatch one each (so far) within the last few days. We've got more eggs in lockdown too.....
It is very light but not white. Rachael got a few in with her Bielefelders as packing peanuts. They definitely look like Rhodebars now that they are growing, but at first we thought they were white Legbars. They are a strawberry blonde color, and very pretty!

Might be a dumb question, but what is the make up for blue partridge? is it as easy as putting a blue with a partridge???
