How is everyone holding up with the winter storm up north? Stay warm and safe, I hope everyone keeps power and snuggles in for the weekend.


Slept in this morning here (so shouldnt have) but after feeling slightly off thanks to sick kids this week.

  So sorry about your little roos.  It's a hen conspiracy you know.  They don't need no stinking roo.

No Kidding - If the hens could just self produce (like worms and frogs) life would be SOOO much easier   There good looking little guys. Don't know  what the problem is.

Ya know, turkey hens have been known to do that! Google "turkey parthenogenisis".

We're on the coast about to head out to fish this morning. The tide finally started moving, but the wind is fierce. The forecast keeps worsening, boo!

I told myself I was going to quit swapping for a while. Just saying it put me into immediate withdrawal pains. I may need an intervention......

Yep, I completely understand! I'll join the group. I was having major withdrawals; my bator was empty for a month. Not any more! I have the Cayugas from sebrightmom, an awesome clutch of blue sex links and EEs from doubleatraining (awesome packing & thanks for the extras Alex!), and filled up the remaining space with Basque. As soon as my brother's duck eggs hatch, I'll be testing fertility on my BLRWs. I'm SO happy I'll have chicks again soon!

Morning! Power still on so far, which means the brooders and incubators are!   Another 6 hours and we'll be through the worst. that it stays on. Went out at 2am to check on the ladies who were all snugglie and gave me stink eye for disturbing their peace.

I'm so happy to hear everyone is safe and still has power!

Good Morning Everyone    Chicken and Rabbit duty finished until noon check. Was sad this morning I found one of my NJ little roo's dead. I took them out of the brooder and put them in a heated pen a few days ago. First night lost one little roo and now a second one. They are all healthy and seem fine. Don't know whats going on unless the girls (who are a lot bigger) are stepping on them. I now have only 2 roos left. 7 girls are doing great....

Madamwlf - sorry you didn't get the barthuhners. I'm glad you have the little ones

Happy that no ones electricity went out! It is nerve wracking when you don't know whats going to happen....

we got about 2 inches yesterday morning and that was it. I think it was all melted by noon.
I cant wait until valentines day because that's when I am meeting the fellow bringing down my new Dorking Roos.

G'morning all! Woke up early this morning to another neighbor (that we haven't met YET) calling that they have our Lucy and the girl puppy in their fenced in yard for us to come and get. We have met quite a few neighbors thank to the dogs, luckily all have been nice. The little girl puppy was going to a new home this am, glad we had neighbors that kept them for us. So the people came and got the girl puppy like 15 min after we got back from getting the escapees. Good timing! They brought us a just baked apple pie, and are giving us a deal on hay... and will have a steer that we can get in a few months to raise for beef. Oh, and I have already rounded up all the extra chickens going to the auction today.

Picking up a new bourbon hen today, fixing fences, burning wood things, sending out BCM eggs to puglady and food good to krafty, cleaning the office and basement and setting up a new huge brooder. Busy busy day! Oh ad have spitz, BCM, Ams and Marans from Donna and buff favs hatching out today!

I just so paid my oldest son (17) to feed and water the ladies today! He's more than willing to wander out in this! The black bar on the back of the chair is the brace, and not the bottom. Anyone feel like sitting down? How about helping to dig out? On a brighter note my Dad called from FL last night letting me know he was going for a swim in his heated pool!
