These are the fruit totes I got from a neighbor bin at $10/ea for new brooders! 4'x4'

I just so paid my oldest son (17) to feed and water the ladies today! He's more than willing to wander out in this! The black bar on the back of the chair is the brace, and not the bottom. Anyone feel like sitting down? How about helping to dig out? On a brighter note my Dad called from FL last night letting me know he was going for a swim in his heated pool! :smack
YUCK!

Okay, here's my "want" list. Orpingtons, both American and English, in assorted colors. Dark Brahmas, but I'm eyeing other colors, too. Welsummers, BBS Ameraucanas, which I wasn't going to do, but changed my mind. (still sharing with you, Alex!), Rose Comb Brown Leghorns, Golden Cuckoo Marans. Maybe another Marans, but not BCMs. EE's and OEs.

I'm wanting good birds, but also a very colorful big egg assortment for my egg customers. And no white or lavender hawk bait birds. Anyone want to suggest breeds I may be overlooking? LF, big eggs, pretty eggs, pretty birds. And some of them I want show quality on. And I free range, so Silkies and Polish are not on my list.

Go ahead. Enable me. I've given up trying to be good.

No worries! I don't have any more breeding pens to give them. I picked up a pair of BCM since I can't keep the local orders filled with what I swap for and get from friends.

I have Splash Marans if you wanted those hatching eggs.

I have some nice black english orps. and some buff brahma's. I could trade eggs in the spring or sell some.

Alex, I forgot about your Splash Marans! That might be the ticket! They should have somewhat darker eggs than the cuckoos, too, shouldn't they? Oh, and the Whitmore birds won't be here until some time in March, so you have time to build another pen! Besides, I want to hold them until we can sex them, so we each get what we want.

Filumene, I would love to see some pics of those Black English Orps particularly! I've got some good quality BBS eggs ordered, and black from a different bloodline would be perfect!

Well we made it through the worst of the storm unscathed

We lost power for about 3 hours early in the evening but luckily got it back last night. Incubators got down to 85

before I managed to get them on backup battery power- I'm thinking they will be ok

Chickens are so not happy this morning, lol. I dug them out but they are staying in the run for sure. Gave them lots of yummy treats to compensate.

Dahlisgram- How did you make out?

Everyone else do ok in the storm??

Here are my poor chickens stuck in their snowed in coop

Morning all!

I'm glad everything worked out okay, spoiledchicken.. Brinsea has a good article on cooling during incubation.. I think your eggs will be fine.

We didn't lose power but the cable was a total pain in the you know what and at one point I just gave up. Didn't sleep until 6 am since we kept going out to shake the snow off the pen nettings. It was seriously piling up on it and we didn't want a collapse. Everyone made it okay here, thankfully. The guy plowing our driveway had to be pulled out this morning.. having a hill driveway stinks in this kind of weather!

Eggs are in lockdown officially now, a day late but I think we're out of the woods... so grateful for the battery backup, even if we didn't need to use it this time.
