Ok I went and picked up 2 laying hens today. They did not know what they were. They both lay brown eggs. So what do you think/ Silver laced Wyn. and ?

Well, I'm off to take the kiddos to see Wreck It Ralph. Since we're going to town, we'll be stopping at the Feed Store, Grocery Store, Costco, well, ya'll know what that's like.
Don't want to waste a trip to town. After being sick for a week, we all need a break from the house.

SOOOO wishing could join in the chicken train... all of us here closer to the West coast should do one if any of us travels... that would be FUN!!! I have helped with the chicken train to UT with other BYCer's around here, always fun to meet other chicken people, in person, lol...

Wanted to post some pictures I just took. The rain finally stopped, and it is now sunny and about 70. Crazy weather.
Here are some pictures of NYDHatchalong chicks. It includes Birchen Marans from crfarms, Coronations and one Arkansas Blue.

Here are my Houdans:

By the way, that is NOT their water. That is the dustbathing pan that had ashes, sand, etc. in it last night. That is how much rain came through the covered part of the run last night.

OK I have a few bantam cochins I would like to find homes for. I was wondering if anyone along my route to/from VA might be interested. These hatched around Thanksgiving.

Okay, so I just had someone ask about one of my chicks, and when I said it was straight run because I don't vent sex, they said, "So feather sexing isn't reliable? Males have all the same length feathers on their wings. Females, every other feather." Anyone heard this one before?

I don't know if this works with all breeds, but I can usually tell with mine based on how the feathers grow in. The girls feather out faster and the boys look cuter (rounder) longer. I can usually tell at a week what they are with a relatively high accuracy.

but I have no idea what breeds this works with.
