To everyone with new puppies, we are trying to get a new puppy for companionship for our GSD. A local no kill shelter has an add up for Golden Retreiver/Border Collie cross. I have got to believe these would be absolutely fabulous dogs. I'm just concerned about my chickens. What do you guys think? If they are raised with the chicks will they be OK?
LOL you can have our youngest...he's a hound/dane cross and great with chickens but he is a bit of an excape artist! and he can open our neighbor's doors so they are very fed up with him and have called animal control on us

How so you stop a puppy from whining? She whines whenever she is not right next to me or gated in her area.
She will outgrow it. What breed is she? Some are better than others. You can try putting down a blanket that has your smell on it for her to lay on.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my 4 month old Great Pyr/Akbash mix LGD to like going in the car or in the garage? He's doing super outside and walking on a leash but get super submissive and scared any time we go near the car or anywhere with a smooth floor. Bringing him inside my house is not an option. Taking him to the vets is an ordeal because he refuses to go inside.

I'd like to eventually get him a playmate from a shelter, but here you have to bring your current dogs to meet the shelter dog, and he wouldn't make a good impression after being in a car.

Where can I get a digital thermometer and hygrometer for my Dickey incubator. I see he offers them on the new models, but I do not see them for sale on his parts list?????

Ok I have been going back and forth for a week now. Help please sportsman or dickey? I want one but despite reading all the posts on them I still am undecided. Those of you with experience with both please chime in here. This is a huge purchase for me and I don't want to mess it up.

Yeah- feed him in the garage. My LGD doesn't like being in the house, but he's trained that the garage and barns are okay. He also goes to the vet fine. It's all about exposure when they're young. Yours is still young, so work on it now!

And if you want him to be an LGD, you do not want him to have a dog playmate. You want him bonded to whatever livestock you are training him to guard. And if you bring home a shelter dog and put it in with your livestock and your LGD, I don't think anything good would happen. Your LGD will learn things you do not want him to learn, the shelter dog *could* kill your stock depending on why it ended up in the shelter, its prey drive level, etc.

Happy Sunday everyone :) I am way behind here. Congrats to all the new chicks and sorry to hear about the losses. Congrats to those who got/are getting new puppies. I am a bit jealous on that one...DH seems willing to let me get just about any animal but a dog. Not sure what his issue with dogs is? It's snowing here, and I am seriously dragging my feet about getting the chicken chores done. Poor girls are refusing to leave the coop.

Sometimes, distance bothers me on these forums. All the mechanical questions and breakdowns...my DH is a genius at fixing things. I barter his services a lot on a local level and we are both the kind of people that like to help when we can. He also seems to be able to find parts for everything. He is a bit of a horder. Anyhow, good luck with your various mechanical problems.

We bought a truck this weekend. We get to pick it up tomorrow. Super excited about it. We have a lot of things where we need to haul something. Previously we have had to use someone else's truck or figure out how to jigsaw stuff into an SUV. Also, for camping...anyway, we are excited.
