Dh is weakening!!!!!!!!!!!! I asked him last nite for a favor since I was helping him a lot with his school work. I told him I needed to build a few more pens, and would he HELP me when I needed it. He said he was thinking about building me a smaller version of the pens I have now... said would probably be more like 4 pens, and asked it that would work.

. He is kinda wishy-washy on the chickens. He is going to help me bring another box in the shop for the chicks I am going to be selling. He is going to help me move some around to make more room. He has suggested I need another incubator (smaller one like 180 eggs) for a back up and in the cooler months. He is not really keen on building any pens.... but that could change after we get moved when we finish the remodeling.

I found the timer things on Ebay last night so I bought 4 so I will have backups for the next time. We are going to work on getting a permanent fix but at least we will not be under HUGE pressure to fix it. If they ship it Monday I should have it Wed or Thursday.

We know a machinist and he told me to get a rheostat thing.... it just didn't work. It seems my motor (I traded pullet for it) is wired more like a 3 phase motor so it is powerful and I think that made this speed controller thing not work.
Yeh I checked out my 1502 last night and I ordered a timer also, luckily I crammed everything in my other 1502, had to open during lock down

I have eggs going into lockdown today. I am going to candle all the eggs and see if I can make some more room by tossing the duds. I have 4 more trays that need to go in the bator today.

BTW I got my eggs from Dick Horstman and they seemed in good shape.

WOW - Just had a SEVERE unexpected thunderstorm!! Lost internet connection. CJ have you down for OEGB and Sebrights. They are much hardier than Serama. I would be willing to send you Serama chicks (at 2-3 weeks old) during the summer if you still want some. If you will pay the shipping, you can have the chicks. I hatch them here like crazy. They do not sell for much in our area as chicks but I do sell a lot of eggs in warmer weather.

I have been out of the conversation about incubator parts. What is it that is needed. I am a hoarder of all things (much to my husbands dismay) and we DO have a machine shop about 5 miles from the house that will fabricate a single part. I do not know the cost but my husband works with them to make new single parts for machines at P&G.
If you can post a picture I'll see what I have. Also my husband can just "look" at something and tell how to repair or replace any kind of mechanical thing. That is what he does for P&G. We also have a good friend that works in the P&G machine shop.

$250 for a Sportsman? Is that good? It looks older. Not worried about pretty or anything if it works. I know some people SWEAR by their sportsman. It says it is a 1502 but the model number is 1202. The label is worn and is hard to read.

I paid $300 for mine. Same thing by the sounds of it. Mine's like 15 years old. Works fairly well, but I'd recommend switching it out to the electronic thermostat. My wafers work well and steady, but once in a blue moon, it'll spike. Granted, they haven't been changed in at least 3 years, probably longer.

I have several of the digital thermostats I am using now.... maybe I could use them. I can change the wafers out. Is that the one that spiked to 122 and killed all your eggs?

Yup, that's the one. It's working fine again. It's spiked about three times. That was the worst because I didn't check it in time to drop it. We have eggs in now doing well, but it'll be upgraded as soon as we move.

As for thermostats, I think the wafers cost just as much as the electronic, so I'd say do the electronic, lol.
