Well, it's been an interesting V-day at work. One client asked me what my DH gave me for V-day. I told him a card, but I asked for a chicken. I think I heard him spit out a drink of some sort. He seemed offended by that answer for some reason. "Why on earth would you want a chicken?!?!??!!"

The call went well until that point.

Sah, I hope your boy heals well and soon

Nothing worse than being in the ER with a child. I had one year where all seven of mine were in the ER at one point or another. In my case, I have excellent insurance and it is one of the few reasons why I stay at this job (that year would have been close to 100k in medical bills for us between finding out a step daughter was diabetic, my pregnancy, my daughter's broken wrist, my stepson's sprained wrist, stiches on a few, and so forth). Anyway, all that to say, you just went through one of my least favorite experiences and I sympathize with you.

Thanks for the reminder about the Bart's names. It says until Feb 14, so I submitted mine.

and now I am off!!!

Well, made it through Grandparents day, valentines party and 7 hour meeting. Just got home... Found out the surest way to make even a Christian School mother mad - let her child paint his and his buddies front teeth black for a Hee Haw Play using black finger nail polish.

Honestly when I saw them I though they were using the fake stuff the play director had given them. I had no way of knowing it was left over from fall festival...Mom still made it my fault. Good thing I take things in stride. They will do something next week that will make her completely forget this week. They are definitely "all boy" !!!

Have a candling question. I have never candled my eggs. I just incubated 18 days and locked down. Now that everyone is talking about it, I wanted to do it too. I have some eggs that should be locked down today. I took them out to candle before lock down. Some of them are clear - definitely no development. Some have just a little black stuff inside - I assume they stopped developing. a couple are full - I assume ready to hatch but there are several that are full in the middle air at the big end, but clear at the small end. I was making the assumption that they were bad but when I watched closer, there is movement in the egg. not just shifting of stuff, but actual honest movement. I put them all in at the same time, what is happening and what should I do??? Please give advice.

I haven't caught up posts to see if anyone answered this yet, but yes those eggs are probably good! Sometimes they're either smaller chicks/smaller breeds, or just slightly slower developers. Unless they're clear or obviously quit development (like, dime-sized black spot in an extra-large egg) I leave them in. So long as you have the room, what caan it hurt?

And RBF I have GOT to get some pictures for you! My white silkie quad from you is getting so big and fluffly!

Aren't silkies some of the BEST!! Little Fluffy Butts that stay FLUFFY! Would love to see some pictures. Thanks for the feedback on the eggs. Should I just leave them in the rocker longer and then candle again in a few days or take them all out and put them in lock down??

I've always just locked them all down at the same time, but my hatch rates haven't been extraordinarily good or anything (yet). Anybody with a better track record and more experience have input on this?

And I will stop being a lazy butt and take a break from playing with them to take pictures!

My son finally finished his valentine box, party is tomorrow, and I thought I would show you. It's supposed to be a chicken.

He has a red bag that will be stuck on top that his teacher helped him with. All his idea and all his work. I think he used half a roll of packing tape getting it stuck all over everything. My little chicken farmer! That's a mealworm sticking out of the beak.

The nice thing was it kept him away from lurking on he swap looking for all the chickens he wants.
