ChickNmamma,

What is your avatar? He is beautiful.

Thank you, I wish I knew. He is the reason I found BYC. I bought him as a "Bantam Americauna" from McMurray Hatcheries. I knew he didn't look anything like the "Americaunas" I had raised for 20 years, so I came here looking for what he was. I found out... he's probably an EE Mutt Bantam - but he sure is beautiful. I will be keeping him and maybe making bantam blue egg laying mutts - hopefully with his coloring! His brother looks similar to a Lemon Blue Splash OEG.. but green legs and rose combed.

pipping does not mean they are totally ready to hatch does it? I think they absorb the blood as they are hatching.... might be soon after pipping or it should be, but they don't don't all do it the same.

I thought I read something where the reason they externally pip is because the oxygen levels get too low, so they start to pull in all of the oxygenated blood from the veins (after they have internally pipped and used up that air) and then get woozy, and that triggers them to strike a hole in the shell (like an involuntary response). So I think that this one was just unlucky and internally pipped through a vein, I guess it happens and there's nothing we could have done differently, just unlucky for chicky. Anyone else heard this? Now after they externally pip I read they are still absorbing the yolk, so I would leave it in their until it climbs itself out.

G'morning all!!! All chickies made it through the night with no heat at all. Yeah for Fridays!

do any of the mods know why I have a total of one swap on the spreadsheet?
Probably because I am behind in updating it.

I had other things requiring my attention last night. Could also be an issue with starting a new page for a new week. I'll look into it. If you have side swaps that need to be added, PM me the info.
